It sure is lonely. I don't like the crowds either. I enjoyed seeing the bikes along the way more than anything. If I go, it will be more for the ride than the stuff in town. My schedule is bad this week but if I get the chance I'll go and make a stop at the Triumph dealer up there and maybe check the wind mills at Somerset (damned things facinate the begeebers out of me). If I get in the mood for a $5.00 hot dog and a sidewalk sermon I'll venture into town. Those that have been there will know what I mean by the last comment.

I'm going. I decided in february or march that I needed a little adventure. Meeting my cousin from the Boston area up there. His ride is a bit more than mine but he is up for it.I;m traveling solo from maryland if anyone else is interested. I dont care for the crowds either but I am looking forward to the weekend off and a nice ride. Gotta take it when you get it.

Geez, sounds like Johnstown will be flooded with bikes, huh?!
Dwight (sorry...forgot to take my anti-pun meds today)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Dwight, Yep, it will be flooded with bikes, I think it was something like 17,000 last year. I love riding up in that area, but I don't like crowds. Thunder in the Valley History I plan on taking a ride or two up that way this summer, but I go to see the historic sites and the countryside.

Yea, I'll be going, I don't like the crowds either but I like to look at thousands of bikes. I go to Thunder in the Valley and the Windber Dog Run cause Johnstown is 20 miles and Windber is 8 miles from my place, so I just got to go check out the bikes.

220 from Cumberland to PA is a great road. I use that route to get to the PA Turnpike and avoid the Breezewood mess.

I'd take 40 to 219 to 56.... if it's the right time of day, stop at Triumph of Windber on 56... on the left...

I agree w/ Grump. Those are all good roads. Ah, good roads by PA standards that is. Nothing like Maryland, Virginia, and the great Bob Byrd Highway System of WVA ("They call me 'The Pork King,' they don't know how much I enjoy it." - Sen. Robert Byrd)

I chose 219. It was a nice ride, took 40 on the way back but picked up 70 at hancock, the heat was cookin me and I wanted to get it done. Johnstown was as expected, crowded but lots of bikes to look at. Later we went to the adaults only abate party. Started out slow but as the day wore on more people showed up and it became entertaining to say the least. Thanks Grump.
