I know this topic has been beat to death, but was reading a post on triuphrat.net that had a copy of the new big twin in the newspaper. Kind of lends credibility to me...unless its the enquirer or Dan Rather.

Link to forum discussion on big twin triupmh

Of course, most probably already know about this since I am always the last to know.

yah, sorry Kevin. saw that article a month ago. [last to know] does lend some credibility though.spoke to my dealer and he had a big smile when subject was brought up but the next day a triumph rep was there and definitly denied anything was in the works.

Saw this some time ago.
But I'm still wondering why the photo looks all blurry like some of those Bigfoot or Loch Ness Monster pics?

I don't get it. Why so secret? build up some excitement, you'll have people waiting in line to buy. They probably don't want to kill sales on the other bikes. Who knows?

Now for the ultimate question that I don't think we have asked yet.
Will we include the new mystery cruiser (if it ever comes out) on this board?

This is the samething that happened on this site back in winter of 03. First the blury test track spy photos and the rumors. Then speculation, more rumors and blury spy photos. Then one day someone post a photo of the ****** thing at a gas station fueling up with cardboard and plastic panels duck taped all over it to hide the giveaway parts. Finally boom, the RocketIII came out.

If it's name is Speedmaster or America, then why not.

my best guess is that IF a larger cruiser is ever released it will be the new Speedmaster, which would make sence of why the re-designed America is starting to evolve into the Speedmaster.

Ya know you have a very good point Soren. They made the America almost a clone of the Speedmaster so it would follow to either phase one out or drasticly change one. So if they are building a larger twin it may very well be the new Speedmaster. China? LOL

Spoke to my dealer the other day, they're all treating it as a fact that it'll happen in late 08-early 09.

Will we support it here? Well unless it rides or looks terrible I'll be getting one, so I'll be pushing for it to be supported here. No model of bike stays in production forever so the site has to evolve along with the marque.

I hope they do call it the Speedmaster, because the banner at the top of this page states, "The site dedicated to Triumph Bonneville America and Speedmaster Riders". FJ won't be able to keep us out!

Ok, here's a twist. It might make sense to keep the Speedmaster and make the new cruiser an America. It would seem US riders are the ones demanding the larger cruiser to compete with HDs, etc.

Either way this forum has been Americas and Speedmasters, why not include a new Speedmaster or America? I'm really just rambling. I guess a new forum could be started, but if I get one, I'll miss you guys (and gals).

I agree with Bob, the speedmaster will stay as is and the new cruiser known as the America as that's where the real market is and HD are the real competitors. For me though, and please don't take any offence to this but I never liked the idea of owning a bike named America. It's just that I'm a proud Aussie that doesn't want a bike named after another country. Seems odd to me but maybe I'm a bit odd too. I mean I wouldn't want to own a bike name a Triumph Australia either. As with then having a forum for the newbie, that seems obvious there would be to me. Anyway I will be keeping my speedie for a while yet cos it offers everything I want at the moment. In the future who knows. Maybe I won't like it much in the way of design. Personally I hope Triumph come up with a completely different twin design just for the interest factor but most believe it will be a larger bonny clone which will then make those with the speedmaster feel like they are the little brother. Hence Triumph creating an entry level prior to buyers trading up to the biggun. That makes sense to me anyway.

Nobody has to leave, unless they're feeling a bit of snobbery with their new ride. But we had this debate when the Rocket III came out and decided that this is still BonnevilleAmerica.com.

How bout this.... Someone take it upon themselves to go start a web site, host it, provide the bandwidth, creat forums, find moderators, etc, then you can support any bike you want. Sound like a deal? Hell I'll even creat a sticky post with a link to it for ya.

Different bike, different forum. Just remember who you are talking about when you say "we" will support something...

I just did a big bore and Mikuni carb kit from bonnevilleperformance.com. It gave me as much bike as I will probably ever need. I scared some people today and got some smutty glances from a lass in a Ford F150.
Okay, maybe not.

Did all of that for less money than a new bike.

Just ride, and I will support you.

Before this escalates in to soem serious fighting words...
1- This is BonnevilleAmerica.com, "BonnevilleAmerica.com is the ONLY place on the web dedicated to bringing you everything you need to know about your Triumph Bonneville America, Triumph America, or Triumph Speedmaster motorcycle."
2- This is not RocketIII.com or AnyOtherTriumph.com
3- Most all opinions about bikes other than the Speedmaster or America are usually welcome, in fact there is the "Other Bikes" section
4- Rumors about a 1200, 1500 or 1800 CC twin cruiser have been floating around close to three years now.
5- There is absolutley no need to even discuss if owners of a non-existant bike will be welcome here.
6- People are and have always been welcomed here (I have been a member for almost a year before I even got my Speedy)
7- This has always has been and always will be Robert's web site.
8- If a new larger bike is ever unveiled and it's name is America or Speedmaster, then I would say refer to point #1 otherwise refer to point #2 and point #3

Now may we please resume the original intent of this thread of a larger cruiser that may or may not exist.

Soren

You have a good point Ryan. To be honest my speedy already goes faster than I need it too. I just think a 1500 would be a nice platform to strap on some bags, a windshield, and a back seat for my wife. I like the Rocket, but it's almost too big. A 1500 just sounds like a nice midle ground.

Of course if the big twin comes out and is over weight and underpowered this conversation pointless.

Benny- Yep it's Rob's site, but it is what is because of all of us. I still love ya... er... in a tough manly way of course!

With the direction of the re-design of the America and the Speedy (and even though I ride a Speedmaster, I miss the spokes on the America), and how they are becoming the same bike, that one of them may become the new larger cruiser.

However, because of the distinct ergonomics of both bikes, I think it would be in Triumphs best interest to keep both teh Speedy and America separate bikes, but with the same frame and motor.

I really hope that if Triumph does come out with a new cruiser, they resurect one of the old classic names like maybe Hurricane.

Now what would really screw with our day is if they kept the Speedmaster at 865cc and named the new cruiser the America.

THEN what would we do?

Yep you are right, the members really do make the content of the site. But I have seen things sort of escalate before where people get to almost making demands on the site, ya know? Just sort of did a nipitinthebud reaction Everyone is always welcome. I've been on some Jeep forums where guys got new/different jeeps, but then just came back and shared all their goodies in the "other jeeps" part. Worked out fine.

What if they dump the 865 completely for the Speedy and America, create one bike and call it the Speedmerica?

Actually Benny most of the Jeeps sites make a new section for the new models. At least the big ones do.

Hey I just asked the question I didn't make any demands.
But I'm sure there are some members who will make the switch.
We have had some of the same members for how many years? We know them, we trust their mechanical knowledge, surely we won't kick them to the curb cause they bought the new model?

Oh nobody is gettin the boot! That's for sure. The Jeep forum I was on is for Liberty's. Sort of the black sheep of the Jeep family Altho now that the Patriot and Compass (which does NOT COME WITH A COMPASS) are out, maybe they will take its place. A lot of guys had "upgraded" to Wranglers of some sort and still stuck around. Was kinda nice being able to see some cool Wrangler mods without having to surf a HUGE Jeep forum for it.

Well lets take the wrangler thing and run with it. There are 3 models of wranglers out there. YJ,TJ and whats the current one? JK? Very different mechanicals with the same basic layout. So different sections are needed to explain how to lift a YJ (leaf sprung) rather than a TJ (coil sprung). While the whole site still conveys the same lets lift jeeps motif.
Ya know what I'm saying?
I still get to play on the jeep site even though I'm wheeling a tracker its just in the "other section" cause its completely different.

About as OT as you can get without being in the rally section.

At least you Jeep guys have a family. Imagine us poor souls wheeling Isuzu's (though mine is the coveted '89 Trooper RS)

Dill,
Got any pics of that tracker? I know someone that has one - I've been trying to get him to build it or sell it to me.

Oh yeah I know about the different wranglers, and the CJ descendants But being a Liberty (KJ) site, they were all "others" I like the site cause, like ours, there is only one Liberty (so far). Any other inclusive Jeep site is going back a LONG way historically!

Yeah bikes.... Lots of the Jeep guys have bikes too

This site is (our bikes are) more like the red-headed stepchildren of the Jeep world: http://ifsja.org/

Everybody loves, hates or at least notices the Wranglers/RocketIIIs. They barely give the FSJs/TBAs any notice. The aftermarket is pretty scarce, except where the parts intersect with other models.

Just to COMPLETELY blow this off course....

Last weekend they showed an old episode of TRUCKS! on Spike where hey souped up an old 2 door fullsize Jeep. He said it's the best deal in wheelin.

Is the Liberty as much of a... er... Jeep as it's older brothers? I guess I've always seen it as a watered down city version.

I still have that episode on my DVR drive from December '05. Unfortunately my recently-acquired '75 J-10 doesn't have the creature comforts that old Cherokee had. A 2-door wide-track Cherokee would've been the bomb, but I wanted a pickup.
