Having "surfed the highway" at 65mph, I can say for a fact that had I NOT been wearing a helmet I would be unable to regale you with this tale...I live in NH, there is no helmet law here, I wear a helmet...most of the time...SOME times I just feel like "today is'nt my day to die" ...the debate over helmets should NEVER be a debate over the proported safety advantages...this can be easily disputed with facts for either side untill the day the earth grinds to a halt...
Helmet laws should only be debated on freedom of choice period....
Don't sing me a song about added health care expences and the good of all...because untill we stop smokers, well then the government has no right to tell me it's "safer and better for me and J.Q. Public's pocketbook if I wear a helmet...
the fact is the AMA and other motorcycle lobyists just don't have the funding that big tobacco has...
so all of you "helmet laws suck" types get off the weight, vision, hearing, arguments...
they can be easily refuted and make you look foolish...stick with freedom to choose...
it's almost indisputable...
try this next time someone tells you...
"you need to wear your helmet because it's safer"
"perhaps your right it might be safer...but as long as this is a free country I'm also free to be an idiot, whether that's by smoking, drinking, playing the lottery, sending my $$$ to questionable televangilists, driving a SUV, not recycling, sking, scuba diving, mountain climbing, having 10 children on a Wal-mart income, or any other of potentialy harmful legal activities and that includes not wearing a helmet."
