you lose periferal vision.

Depends on the helmet. I cannot see the edges of my face shield opening (HJC Symax) by turning my eyes all the way to either side. Therefore it cannot affect my peripheral vision.
A 3/4" rock in the middle of my forehead, however, could be disastrous. And my helmet has deflected a few of those.

Now if only the helmet could do something about the rocks IN my head!

Like Soren said...it's really a matter of personal choice...I've never ridden with a legal helmet, have always ridden with no helmet in states that permit it....Somehow something has just shifted for me....I have 3 friends that are in treatment for serious cancers....making me think about maximizing my chances for a long life...
I picked up the HJC CL-33- didn't go for spending big money in case I absolutely hated it, and I'm finding what Bill of the Rat Fink Avatar said to be true for me- no problem at all with periferal vision.

No matter what I ride like I'm invisible to others on the road...Make my decisions as if folks don't see me, even if I see them seeing me.
