Most of these 50-something Hardley riders do not have any experience. They bought these machines because they didn't have one when they were young, or else they had a 125 or something. If you read the details of these deaths, they are either young crotchrocket riders or 50+ Hardley riders with no experience. OK, thats my rant for the day.......

Too many people with the "Bigger is Better" mentality. That heavy bike is fine in a go-straight situation, but when the curve shows up and they're coming in hot, they don't have the skills to handle it.

Couple of co-workers here just bought new bikes. One bought a 1300 VTX Honda as his first ever bike. He weighs about 130 lbs and complains to me about how hard the bike is to maneuver - but look how cool I am on it! Another guy just dropped $55K on a Big Dog - for his first ever bike. They both probably chuckle when I roll in on my "little bike".

There'll probably be some good deals on used steel in a year or two. We've already got a '99 "one owner" Big Dog on the bulletin board w/ <600 miles on it. The guy's willing to take a $30,000 loss.
