Still stock - SM pipes - 9500+ miles and they sound a lot different than they did a year ago. After 10 months of mostly freeway/highway riding, finally had occassion to do some city riding - with a friend on his America. He has aftermarket slash cuts, but doesn't know what they are. (I'll find out next trip in to the shop.) Not too loud, but I don't think they are TORs either. Anyway - I learned just recently that I do enjoy riding mine around in 2nd gear - speeds 30-45 mph - and just riding that power band. I've the 18t sprocket mind you, and that is still a fairly recent mod, but with the 16t on I know I was riding these speeds in 3rd, as I was after the sprocket change until I did enough miles at those speeds - and realized it is more fun in 2nd gear!

The stock SM pipes sound a lot deeper now - mellowed out. I can't match the looks with aftermarkets yet, can't complain about the stock bike's performance - I'm really satisfied, and heck - no surgeing, no decell popping - none of the things I hear some talking about after replacing pipes, jets, removing snorkles, etc. I just change my oil, lube my chain, and ride. I'll get around to exhaust some day, but it won't be a priority for me anytime soon.

Sounds more like a sportbike? Are they considered too quiet, too?
