Yep, that's the connector. My alarm's aftermarket and I fitted it by cutting the connector off completely, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's a security feature that makes it damn near impossible to disconnect it. That's why there's a security torx screw in the battery cover - it's not so people won't steal your battery, it's to stop them disabling the alarm and lifting your bike onto a truck.

Oh, and yeah I suppose you could take the console off the tank before you remove it, if you really think it's a good idea to avoid stretching & breaking your wiring.
