Hey everyone,
I just got an email from the AMA asking me to contact my congress men and women to support a bill that would close a loophole and end insurance discrimination against motorcyclists. I think that is a worthy cause, so I sent an email to my senators and representatives. I sent the pre-written email directly off the AMA's website. All I had to do was enter my zip code and fill in a few lines of information.
I think it's a worthwhile cause, and I don't mind putting my name on an email that supports it. I think everyone here agrees that you shouldn't be denied health insurance coverage just because you happen to ride a motorcycle. According the the AMA, it's happening more and more. If anyone wants to email their congress people, you can go to the AMA's website. Here's the address:
AMA Action Alert pageJust look at the page and you will see the links under 'Action Alert' to get you started,
Thanks,
Cody
FYI, here are the first few paragraphs of the email:
Quote:
I live, ride and work in your district and I am urging you to support motorcyclists by co-sponsoring S. 616, "The HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act.â€Â
U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) and U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) recently introduced S. 616, "The HIPAA Recreational Injury Technical Correction Act.†Identical legislation passed the full Senate in the 108th Congress and obtained 177 bipartisan cosponsors in the House.
S. 616 aims at ending health care discrimination for individuals participating in legal transportation and recreational activities-activities like motorcycling, snowmobiling, skiing, horseback riding, and all-terrain vehicle riding.
This legislation addresses a loophole caused by a Department of Health and Human Services' rule making it possible for health care benefits to be denied to those who are injured while participating in these activities.
