Does anyone out there have a Nolan N-42 and what do you think of it? Pro's and Con's. Looking for an all weather helmet. thanks

Jerry, I have one ordered. It should be here tomorrow. I have read in some other forums that for a 3/4 helmet they are fairly quiet and very comfortable. I ordered a flat black n42 outlaw. I will let you know what I think after I have a chance to use it. I really do like the idea of having a clear shield and a small tinted shield. This will cover my day and night rides without having to change shields or carry sunglasses.
The best price I have found for them so far is sandhillspowersports.com about $132 delivered

I've got the 41 - bout the same as the 42 except it has an awful visor. Awful because it is a wind sail. Its now gone.
It felt good in the store and bad on the road. Had to do some work on the inside of the helmet to get it to fit right. The shield tends to fog easily. I also have the full face - also had to send it out for work to get a decent fit. I'd give 'em a C.

I bought one last year at helmet world during the NE Rally.
Until that point I was only riding with a half helmet.
It poured the most of the way back to NH. This helmet kept me nice and comfortable. I don't like a full face, it makes me feel claustrophobic. This helmet was the perfect combination of protection and space for me.
I don't have a windshield or a fairing on the bike so on cold rides like last weekend I use the nolan. There is a little wind that comes up from the bottom but not bad. The visor is easy to use with gloved hands and the same with the shaded visor.
Overall very impressed.

I have the N42 - the quick release is top shelf - you'll never want to deal with d-rings ever again... the shield does fog on cooler mornings to the point you have to flip it up. The shaded mini-shield is so-so. When it's really bright it is ok to flip it down, but most of the time it's too dark....so you end up running with the mini shield flipped up and it starts vibrating around 75 mph. Also - a quick release shield would be nice. At the time I was looking for the Scorpion EXO-200, but they were impossible to buy, now I would consider trading....except I'd miss that quick release....  footnote - the current model N42 have an option for internal speakers.....I have some wired in, but would like to see the factory wired version....

I took the sunshade off after the first ride. It flopped up and down and made too much noise. POS.
The clear shield will not stay up on a hot day at speeds over 50 MPH or in gusty winds.
I use the N-42 as a cool weather helmet, it is superb in that role. I will retire it until fall once the weather gets hot. I think it is as good as a 3/4 helmet gets.

I bought the N42 last year. I agree with many of the observations here. The mini tinted shield I use rarely because it doesn't come down far enough. The regular shield is great and I've not had it come up in winds. The quick release is just the best. I've read somewhere that the Nolan's were a little better suited to rounder heads, I had a little discomfort on my forehead as it seemed to tight but now it's settled in and I like it and would buy another Nolan.

I've been looking at the N102, as I like the look of it. Has anyone put the N-COM accessories in for listening to music etc..

I bought a Nolan Flip face 102. Big Mistake. Seems my oval head and Nolan's round helmet don't jive. I wear hearos 32 dB ear filters. Well by the time I got home (65 miles) I swear that my ears felt like I had ridden 12 hours at 60mph+ with no ear plugs. The low frequency or booming type noise about drove me insane. Boy was Lynn surprised when we got home and I was irate! I also seemed to recall a friend saying how noisy the Nolan's were too...After I made the purchase.
The Helmet Shop in Daytona took it back and I got me an HJC flipface. The Nolan I returned was in perfect condition and the guy at the counter made sure of that too.
Moral of this tale? The helmet shop takes returns (but they have old helmets.)
Helmets are a precarious purchase. Just go to webbikeworld and read about them. Sizes vary within manufacture’s products, noise levels vary from rider to rider and fit is something you have to experience. Even good fit doesn’t ensure acceptable noise levels. I do know that 32db filters and helmets should allow one to hear there own 125db horn at 60 mph!

Thanks Mo, I will approach with caution, as they are not a cheap helmet in the UK £188.00 +P&P + N-Comm accessories at around £35.00...

I can't tell you about the N42, but my N41 is very noisy. It just generates a whole bunch of wind noise. I have gone back to my cheap backup helmet, and I'm going to sell the N41.

Totally agree about the N41 too noisy and the visor acts as a sail, recently had a spill & scratched the clear visor, gonna cost me $60AUD to replace - not happy at all with them
