and I agree you could go on and on and on with great guitbox players and each in thier own right are the best.
Absolutely. I can think of loads whos name i dont know or dont remember. Think of the the great bands and each of them have great guitar players.
Fleetwood Mac, The Eagels, Heart, Who was the guy who played guitar on Billy Idols "White Wedding, Flesh or Fanatasy", thats some great playing.
Steve Lukether, brilliant player. The Clash, not exactly known for ear splitting guitar solos, but some of the riffs those guys laid down i think are just brilliant.
And on top of this. All of these posts on hear have concentrated on 'Modern' Rock/Popular (?) music. What about all the classically trained guitar players. I cannot think of many, it is not an area of music i know much about, but for those who study classical or accoustic players. Im sure there are those who would argue that the guys we have named could not hold a light to some of those guys.

Different style not better not worse. There are greats in any kind of music you want to mention. Somewhere there was a caveman who liked the way another beat a stick on the ground!! LOL Funny but true. And ya wanna talk great pickers ( No I didn't say peckers LOL) Think of some banjo players like the kid from Deliverence or who ever it was that played on Return to Dismal Swamp by John Mcewen or how ever you spell it. I am not much for country or blue grass but I love a great banjo player.

I don't think anyone's mentioned the Roys, Roy Buchannan, and Roy Clark.
My typing skills are not up to the list needed for great axe-men. I'd better edit here: and axe-women(Bonnie Raitt comes to mind).
Of course, all the great blues players.

Eric Clapton is great - but not God. As far as guitar is concerned, Leo Kottke is a bit superior. As is Scooter Muse. Scooter is pretty good on a banjo too. I hate banjos. The only time I've heard a good sound come out of a banjo, was when an accordian was thrown on top of a banjo in a dumpster. By the way, I love Scottish music and Bluegrass

How can you like Blue Grass and not like banjo? And Scottish music? Bag pipes sound like someone stomping on a bag of cats. LOL

They sound even better if when fired into a dumpster they bounce off some godforsaken bagpipes too!

Hey, just remember the name of the blind canadian guitar player.
Jeff Healey.
The guy is brilliant. He plays sitting down with the guitar laying across his lap.

Skunk 'One Take' Baxter?

The story goes he did the solo for 'Reelin In The Years' in one take, with no rehearsel, and no prior access to the charts

That would be the guitar player in "Road House"
Also, Bagpipes were meant to be offensive. They were used as an intimidation on the battlefield I think... My parents went to the highland games in Nova Scotia a couple years ago, and my dad went down to the warm up field where ALL the pipers were playing. He said the sound was deafening!
