I like the idea and respect the wishes of this group but I still don't understand the grudge on our bikes. The America was deisgned after the " Old School" bobbers and Choppers of the 50's 60's and 70's.
Exactly Shane. They ARE!(but evidently NOT, ahh, what was that word he said again, "Rockabilly" enough for their tastes.(and don't bother breaking into a rendition of "Blue Suede Shoes" either, as it would appear to fall upon deaf ears over there ALSO!)
I say give it up, that is until you buy that Thruxton.(they LIKE Thruxtons, ya know)
Now HERE'S the interesting part of this equation.....
I ride on many SoCal Norton Owners club rides(they're just a little less particular about their membership, I might add...ANY britbike owner is welcome to join, and there's probably more Triumphs are ALL KINDS and years in that organization than Nortons, BTW), and while on some of those rides I've run across a few of the B.I.Rs who turned out to be very nice guys(and if you're wondering...NO, they DON'T affect a british accent to "complete" their little fantasy world). And while on these rides I'm usually riding my 1970 Triumph "Streetracker", a roadgoing version of an AMERICAN FLATTRACKER from the same era as their little Cafe Racers(well, MODERN Cafe Racers, that is), and while on those runs a few of them invited me to actually JOIN their little club because, quite frankly, my old Triumph is ONE COOL LOOKIN' RIDE. I politely(yes...I CAN actually be polite now and then, BTW) asked them about why would they "allow" such a bike into the club, and they said basically, "well, it's close enough and it's BEAUTIFUL, and it's NOT a cruiser, per se."
I politely(yes...once again) declined their "kind offer".
So...GO FIGURE!!!
Cheers,
Dwight

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
