Herb, I heard that sound many times and discovered that the starter drive gear is activated if the engine on shutdown rotates or is kicked backwards just a little. I'm shure you dont hear it every time you kill the engine but often enough to cause concern. If the klunk sound your hearing is the same as mine then dont worry it's normal, In the future get off the bike while the engine's running and kill the bike while holding a gloved hand on the starter and you'll feel the klunk there. Like I said it won't happen every time but you'll catch it after a few times. Good luck klunk hunting Tmax
