Hey Cat,
Palmer also has a aftermarket backrest on his Speedy. Looks darn good too...

I went a slightly different route. I bought a product that combines a backrest and a rigid duffel. There are pictures at the following link. The blue TBA is mine. http://www.bikersfriend.com/pages/saddlebag.htm [image]http://http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1455&sort=1&cat=500&page=1[/image]
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

WOW. Ok, that's cool. Guess I'll be looking into one of those for the next really long trip! Yee haw!
How you like it? Does it help prevent "chopper slouch"?

I made a pad and velcro'd it to the front of my pillion bag. It's unobtrusive (the pad - not the pillion bag!) and works very well for me. You can see it in this pic

nico,
yeah, i know, but i thought it might be confusing to some; rider's back rest being misunderstood for meaning passenger not operator, hence the reply w/ a sissy bar....
does that make sense?

There's the Lazy Rider which serves as a backrest and hard bag. I've used mine for a couple of years now on long trips and really like it. http://www.lazyrider.com/

I can confirm that Bikers Friend works really well when combined with a sissy bar to hold it rock solid. I've done a few 350 mile days with this on and had a well supported back all the way.
It's the best thing I've bought for my bike by a long way. They were very helpfull and responsive regarding my enquiries about size etc. I had someone measure the distance from my back to the sissy bar, which is about 15.5 inches. They recomended the large or extra large. I went for large as they advised XL might look too big if I used it without panniers on the bike. Best wishes
Bob
