Paul, Ya know that old sayin' about there never being a "dumb question" if it's asked in earnest? Well, I guess you must be tryin' to "prove the rule" here with this here question!!! As Ron said..."It's a TRIUMPH", ain't it???!!! (heck...you could show up on a friggin' HARLEY for all I care, Dude!!!)

Dwight, my boss just called and said he was able to get coverage for me so it looks like I'll be riding down with Bob Wall. By the way,how soft is your backyard? Mike

Glad to hear you can make it too, Mike. Now, about the "backyard". There ain't any. The house is built on a hill, and behind the sucker is nothing but a uphill slope full of trees and boulders. So, it looks like you're gonna be stuck with your sleepin' arrangements being somewhere inside the place, there "Mountain Man".

Yeah Dwight, I was wondering about that too. Since no one else seems to be hotelin' it, is there room inside somewhere for my sleeping bag? Any ol' piece of floor works. Saves on walking to the hotel too .

Bill, The Prescott house is about 3000 sq ft in size. No problem there, Dude. Plenty of space to throw that sleeping roll down. The only problem is the rather small water heater for the size of the house. Woe be to the last few people needing that hot shower.
(at least until that sucker heats up the next batch of H2O, that is)

Contemplated changing my screen name to "sin huevos" after that one, but once again, peace reigns over the humble homestead of Mr. and Mrs. wrwallpi. Loss of a couple of points for tackiness, but I've been in trouble for much bigger things, so, in the words of Al Einstein, "Everything's relative." Will be accompanied by FCTush (Mike Denton, Montrose). Mrs. Wall has no truck for two-wheeled foolishness, save a trip downtown for bagels and a latte every once in a while. If I can stay out of trouble between now and then, it will be a miracle... One more quote in closing - "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way." - Jessica Rabbit

Dang - I go away for the weekend and all heck breaks loose! I'm not entirely sure what I missed, and maybe that is a good thing. It also appears that the BF will be caging it down for at least part of the weekend, as he has not been released by the Doc from his shoulder surgery, so isn't riding yet (doesn't want to lose his pay while off on medical leave!!!! - if someone from his work catches him out on the bike - bummer as riding season has arrived here in the northland) See ya'll in a couple weeks. A week from tomorrow!!!!! I'm thinking about taking state route five south from Seligman. Looks to be not much further than going to 89. Any knowledge of that road?

Have never taken it..Rt 5...I don't remember seeing any signs in Seligman for the turn off....but its probably there.....check to make sure of the condition of the road - there's still some unpaved state rts out there. I just looked at Mapquest, and it doesn't even show SR 5 going all the way thru to Seligman..... maybe call someone in Seligman and ask. I do old Rt 66 from Kingman to almost Ashfork - keeps you off the freeway and its a nice ride, its signed pretty well. B

Thanks Becky, I hadn't thought about that. Since avoiding as much slab as possible was my main motive, that could be the plan .

Bill,
As an alternate route you might investigate staying on 93 past I40(talk about your super slab!!!) going toward PHX. And it appears that about 40-50 miles south of I40, you make a left on AZ-97(NE bound) and then a right on AZ-96(SE bound) to Kirkland. Then take a right on AZ-15(SE bound) at Kirkland, to the AZ89 and take a left(NE bound) and up over the mountains right into Prescott, and through the Prescott National Forest.
This looks to be close to the same mileage from L.V. to Prescott as droning on I40(or Old Route66) and then taking AZ-89 south.
I haven't been on those roads, but they appear to be pretty decent looking according to my map, and it also looks like you'd be riding some nice mountain roads instead of that flat straight stuff.

Running down 93 is definitely the way I'd go, and have gone on rides to Laughlin and Vegas. That 97 Dwight's talking about is the rollercoater road we took on a day ride with him and Becky when we went to Bagdad. It's not an extreme road, just cool little rises and dips with plenty of twists and turns. A fun little road. In fact, we might even do that road on one of our day rides during the rally. Looking forward to next week!

Yeah!! More options. I'd looked at that one a while back, but again, not being familiar with the roads, yada, yada.
So Dwight, you gonna PM or post an addy, or directions to your place?

Ladies and Gentlemen, Just in case I haven't posted the address of the Fest before now, here it is: The SouthWest Triumph Fest Dwight and Judie Argo 935 Copper Basin Rd Prescott, AZ 86303 and my cell#: (310)994-7365 My home is located about 1 1/2 miles southwest of Whiskey Row(Montezuma St. aka AZ Hwy-89) Take Montezuma St. south out of downtown and follow the main road about 1 mile(the name changes to White Spar Road as it twists to the right and then to the left a bit. There will be an white '50s style gas station/minimart(and stoplight) on the SW corner of the intersection of this road and Copper Basin Road where you'll turn right(west). Ride up about a half mile up Copper Basin and about 300 feet after you pass Highland St.(which intersects to the right), look up to the left. The house will be sitting about 20 ft above the street. WARNING! Be careful coming up the long UNPAVED driveway. (I don't want anybody droppin' their ride and bending their brake and/or shift pedal before this thing even gets off the ground, ya know)

Oh to have such a dilemma on a daily basis which with to have to contend, huh people?! Okay, let's see, Paul. One's a very cool dual-purpose machine that'll run all day long at 90MPH on the Interstate without breathing hard, and also do the occasional fire-road duty. The other's a very cool cruiser that'll run all day long at 80MPH without breathing hard, and is the best looking and most competent cruiser out there today. I'd say if you were riding in from San Antonio with Ron, I'd pick the Tiger. But, seein' as how you're riding in from Chinle AZ, I think I'd pick the BA. But in either case, you can't lose.

Which is more difficult, going up the drive, or down? Seems that's (down) where my problems lie...
So, with a couple of days to spare, do we have a final headcount?
FCTush and wrwallpi to start out about 0830 on Thursday, with 560 or so miles to go before we call it a day. Figure we'll be in about 2100 hours or so. Flagstaff will be the last Interstate related city, before Prescott, I guess.
What's everyone else's city of origin, and ETA? I figure satxron will get the prize for most miles traveled, unless there's a dark-horse candidate out there, an under the wire guy who might make a special visit (No, not Santa Claus, sorry).
Look forward to putting faces with names!

Bill - Sorry, but I'm not gonna wait for you guys - my plan is to leave Flag between noon and 1 pm - and be VERY careful after dark - the Elk abound in these parts and have a habit of jumping in front of moving vehicles out of nowhere! Becky

That's okay, I'll let FCTush go first. Checked w/ the US Navy Astro Lab - new moon on 05/16. Probably not a good thing, since all God's furry little creatures seem to come out when there's a new moon.
One good thing about interstates though, you let a semi go about a quarter-mile ahead, and wait for the "pink cloud..."
But seriously, thanks for the warning. May reconsider take-off time to something earlier. Mike's an early riser, and my wife predicts I'll be like a kid at Christmas, and won't sleep much, anyway.
Mike - got yer ears on?

I'll be leaving Vegas sometime in the morning Thursday. Around 9:00 most likely, after the morning rush. I figure five or six hours to Prescott. Quote:

Should be out of here around 6-7 am tomorrow. Trying for an early start to beat the Phoenix heat. Usually takes about 5-6 hours, but then I like to stop every 70 miles. Then there's usually a beer with my name on it in Nowhere, Az, right before the climb up White Spar. My wife's following in the car so we can load it up with tools, bike jack, and sleeping bags. Going boyscout with the tools just in case. At least the jack will make it easy to clean the chains for anybody that wants too.
