Anybody got one of these and been happy with it? I see they are on sale for $69.95.I noticed alot of negative as well as positive feedback on this lift. After fighting to put my new rear and front tires back on last night this looked like a good item to have over my homemade manual lift that does'nt lift the rear high enough to pull the tire out or put back in.

I bought the Chinese built Sears jack soon after buying the bike. So far, I've been happy with it. I've read the hydraulic pump can fail, so I try not to leave the bike jacked for any extended period of time and always use the "locking bar". Not sure what I'd do if the pump fails when locked upright.
To date no problems. I'd buy it again for the price.
Regards,
Tom

No problem with mine. Unfortuantely, it's had my '66 in the air since the first week of January. I still use the homemade jack for oil changes and chain lube.

I have one and love it. Makes cleaning the chain much easier. If you ever have to drop the tires it will pay big dividens.

I got mine right after I bought the bike in 05. I paid the full $90. and couldn't be happier. Get over there right now and save yourself $20. I wouldn't be without one. I use it for cleaning the wheels and always check the air pressure while it's on the lift. Any maintenance you do on the bike will be easier. I couldn't imagine waxing the chain without it.

If you have the safety bar up not a problem if the pump leaks all of the fluid back into its reservoir. I had mine all the way up the whole winter. All I did was pump it up again and release the safety bar then let her down.

I didn't mention I bought the more expensive 1500 pound one from sears. Think it was $149.00 or so. does everything I need it to do.. Even used it to jack up my porch to switch out a support post.

Hydraulic jacks aren't meant to carry weight on the hydralics over the long term - the seals wear out quickly and the fluid leaks back into the reservoir or out past the piston. Use the hydraulic jack to lift then use the locking bar (or axle stands for cars) and open the valve on the jack to release the pressure off the seals.
FYI I have a lift (not sears, not available in AU) and a home made jack, and I use the home made one 9 times out of 10.

Pete,
Do it. I've had mine for several years and it's been great. I wished I could have picked mine up at that price. I paid well over $100 for mine when I bought it....

Pete, I have the Pep Boys model, and the valve tab (plastic) broke early on, so I've been using a 12mm wrench for it ever since. One of these days I think I still may replace it with the sears one. Better handles etc. Better brakes and such too.

I have the Harbor Freight $65 or $70 model. These style of jacks seem to be a great value, probably due to Chinese manufacture. It's a lotta metal etc., for $70, IMO. It wouldn't surprise me if the half dozen or so flavors of lift we see are all made in one or two factories in China, kind of like what Murray / MTD lawnmowers does in the US market, in badging for a number of vendors.
If you need to move the jack to & fro from storage to usage or up and down stairs, and you're willing to spend a little more, look into the aluminum models. They're much easier to carry. The steel ones are a little awkward if the transport requires carriage as opposed to wheeling the jack across a floor.
To add a bit what Sandman posted, many hydraulic jacks do not take well to being stored in a horizontal position, a lesson I learned the hard way.

I picked mine up last night! $70 on sale, and I had a $25 gift card to boot, so I paid $50 with taxes and everything. I know it's a good jack, my buddy has one and I use his all the time.

Get the cheaper one, I have the cheaper one and a buddy has the fancy one. The fancy one has a soft rubber sleeve on the jack handle which makes twisting to let it down a little much harder. Plus the handle comes out much harder than the standard one. So I would save the money over the "promodel". I love have that jack. Not only is it great for the bikes but I have used it to put a tranny back in a truck and they are great for axle swaps.

Get one. You won't use it to change the oil though. Bought mine back when the retail was 129 on sale for 99. Heck, Chy even has one...

My son bought mine for my b-day soon after I bought my bike in 04. It's the ChiCom Sears. The weld on the tee handle broke first thing. The weld was poor, but outside of than it works okay.

I had one from Sam's Club that lasted a few years and then the bottle blew out (and I didn't leave anything jacked up on it)). Swapped the bottle jack with one from Pep Boys and after I got my new aluminum Sears one, gave it to Brad (MrUnix).
I like the lighter one because it's very easy to maneuver and I have a much finer control over lifting and lowering (I can raise or lower it a pubimeter at a time). That's going to come in real handy next weekend when I do my chain, sprockets, and cush drive.

So Phil, which chain and sprocket combo did you go with, Triumph OEM or aftermarket? I've got a Sprocket Specialists aluminum rear sprocket, after they said they they couldn't get me a steel one, and the teeth are getting sharp and pointy after 16,000 miles. I think next time I'll go back to the Triumph OEM kit. Not that I get much more life out of the Triumph one, but ordering it isn't nearly the hassle of getting aftermarket stuff. AFAIK, Sprocket Specialists still has our bikes listed with the same part numbers as the regular Bonnevilles, and now way do those sprockets fit our bikes.
I've got an AutoZone cheap chiwanese motorcycle/ATV jack that I think I paid something like $49.95 3 1/2 years ago. Still works good.

This is gonna kill you but two years ago for Christmas, Janet bought me the Triumph varsity jacket. I didn't like it and brought it back to Bob's shop for a $100 credit. So I'm hemming and hawing about what to do with it and he goes "Hey, I've got a chain and both sprockets off a new SM that I changed to a belt, you want them?" Oh, hell yeah!!!
With an almost new front 17 gratis from Rob, I have a stock chain and sprocket set for $100!!! Course, I paid retail for the cush but even with that, I am below what the chain/sprockets would have cost me!

Nice deal on that chain and sprocket set. And here I've been looking for the Triumph Varsity jacket in size L for a long time...as long as I can get it for $100 or under. Came close on ebay a few times.

I got the red one a couple of years ago and am quite happy with it. I don't like the looks of the yellow one, it seems to be cheaply made.

My son bought me the updated model from Pep Boys and I love it very solid the bike does not even wiggle when you shake it when it is up in the air.
Just be careful, the first time you use it to make sure the bar clears the oil filter, please do not ask me how I know !!!
