Just a comment...went 2 years without a problem and when i started using my BlackNDecker $25 battery tender last fall and plugging it in whilst my bike rested in the garage my battery went bad. Coincidence? A cheap charger?

I don't think you can tell. With two years of unattended winters at the onset, you have no way of how that may have affected the life cycle. The aforementioned Battery Tender (Trade name by Deltran (sp.?), I believe) is said to have the ability to NOT over charge and somehow 'cycle' charge the battery. How effectively-who knows... I don't know if your B&D unit has that same functionality. Some chargers, regardless of output, just provide continuous charging. That's supposidly not good.

As a side, I use, and have always used the Deltran unit (the Water Proof model) and have experienced what I'd call premature battery failure. Seems my failed battery had an internal short and went belly up in less than a year. The second unit has faired better. I'll say no more because its like spitting up in the air - And I don't want to buy one again soon.
