A little OT - my brother and I had a good year in 02, and put down payments on new fangled civilized cars for the wives. He picked a fancy T5 turbo laden Volvo, and I picked a rag top Mustang GT. (It's not easy being 49 going on 14, but someone has to do it.) The Volvo is in the shop every other week with a broken this or a WTF that. The Mustang has required a battery under warranty, and oil changes. (And I don't even like Fords!)

I'm teaching my daughter how to drive, and the first thing I taught her was to not trust her mirrors, but always look, turn your head and look for traffic before changing lanes. Might save her and somebody else's life someday.

I saw that commercial on TV. The bike passed him on the right, implying it was the bike's fault...

And yes, NEWER Volvos share ford parts, but it is usually those little whizbang eletrical things that fail in the spiffy euro sedans. The new small volvos share a lot with the euro Focus, and the Mazda 3, all get awesome reviews. I think this is a case of maybe the Volvo's go down a small notch, but the fords and mazdas benefit from the volvos too, ya know?

Come now benny, you've never been passed on the right by a bike? I've had kids on crotch rockets go onto the shoulder in order to go by me on the right.I think the point volvo is making it will help you watch out for morons, Not bashing bikers. And it may help you pull your own head out of your butt.

Volvo sold their car division to Ford, making the Volvo truck line cash rich, and that much stronger. Volvo truck now owns Mack. Macks will soon be sporting Volvo engines. And believe it or not, Mack is still having cam problems, as they have for the past 18 plus years.

Well if Alex is going to poke along in the fast lane he shouldn't be surprised if he gets passed on the right. Also, maybe he should check ALL his mirrors AND turn his head. All we need is a new gizmo for people too lazy to turn their heads and look in all their mirrors.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I read an article a while back, forget where, about the most dangerous to motorcyclist cars. The ones to watch especially carefully while on the road.
The usual suspects were there, tuner cars, beaters etc. But the one at the top of the list was Volvo.
Seems most people that buy Volvos do so for the safety aspect and reputation, (more likely to survive an accident without injury) and are more likely to drive as if they're the only ones out there.

The fact that he laughs as he realizes he almost hit the bike. "hahaha...that little guy on the motor bike would have been killed if it weren't for this cool Volvo." He could have have had a look on his face that indicated he was relieved. I aggree benny, they are trying to make it seem like people should look out for those pesky motorbikes/

You seem to be a rare breed there LJ. Yep! A true anomaly among the motoring public, I'd say.

You see, I don't know of too many people who have both a VOLVO and a MOTORCYCLE sittin' side by side in their garage.

I've always kind o' chalked that up to the fact that Volvo has for many years pushed the "safety aspect" of their vehicles to the buying public...and then CONVERSELY, there's THE MOTOYCYCLE! And I think we all know "how safe" these d*mn contraptions are that all of us knuckleheads here are "addicted" to, don't we?!

I mean, what IS the lastest "score" around here this week anyway? Oh yeah....

Cagers-----3
BA.comers--0

And "spring training" has JUST BEGUN, for chrissake!!!

Cheers,
Dwight
(but luckily it seems that the three BA.comers in question will only be on the D.L. for a short time, and HOPEFULLY will be "back in the lineup this season come Opening Day!"

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Actually Bill, I can believe that about the Volvo drivers, since we seem to be Volvo-rich in this part of Connecticut (along with VW's and Subies), and some of the worst offenders for traffic stupidity, i.e. doing things as if there's not another soul within 150 miles of here, are Volvo drivers. I don't know if maybe they think that extra safeness will somehow rub off on the person who they hit when they change lanes with not nearly enough room or without using turnsignals, or what. Maybe one of the gizmos that Volvo has, that we're not aware of, is a 3D Virtual cockpit, that surrounds the driver with a virtual image of his surroundings, where all threats are elminiated, thus reaffirming the Volvo drivers belief that he is totally safe in his/her Volvo....

The only Volvos I own sit on three axles.

And I can assure you, that anyone who owns 3 axle vehicles for the purpose of making a living in the US is not quite right.
