You can check this easily enough. Back the chain adjustment off one side (1/6 turn), give the wheel a good kick to move it forward, tighten up the axle nut and go for a ride.
The chain should be adjusted at its tightest point, otherwise it it possible to damage the axle and transmission bearings.
