Got nailed yesterday on my '07 America with a whopping 250 miles on it. Some bozo made an illegal lane change into my lane, sideswiping me, in order to make an illegal left turn. He was a total jerk about the whole deal, kept insisting it HAD to be my fault, started making up stories to the cops, and in the end received the ticket. You can see in the picture my right-hand headlight basically hit into his fuel filler door, which started the chain reaction of the bike slamming sideways and me skidding on the ground.

I'm so very, very hopeful it will be totaled. I bought a new bike for a reason. I've waxed it a dozen times since I bought it. Wash it after every ride. And it will never be the same again, no matter how well it gets repaired.

Lessons learned: I had on boots, jeans, a thick leather jacket, leather gloves, and full face helmet. I skidded for about 25 feet on the street on my right shoulder/arm, knee, and face. Had I not had on the protective gear I did, I'd still be in the hospital with no nose or chin and no skin on my shoulder.

I'll post more pictures when I can get them taken today. I'm going to take the bike to the dealer this morning. I feel like such a Harley owner trailering my bike to the dealer, but I don't have much choice this time!

Matt, sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are OK.
Bikes can be fixed. The important thing is that you survived.

Remember....they really are trying to kill us.

Aww man.. that sucks... glad you're okay though. You gotta watch it out there these days, people get a bit too wrapped up in their own little world while driving.

OK, this is like 3 in a week? I hope you're the end of this for a while! Glad your doing OK. I understand your angst over the new bike, but they are just bits of metal and can be replaced. The important thing is the rider is not too worse for wear. Hope the outcome of the bike is in your favor, Keep us posted!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

Glad you are doing good! Hopefully you will be able to get back on the road soon.

Yea, it seems like it is that time of the year. Over the winter, cagers have forgotten that bikes exist and a lot of them got use to playing bumper cars anyway over the winter.

Early spring always seems to bring out the worst driving habits.

Good to hear you're OK Matt. It's the time of year again when bikes are beginnning to hit the road and drivers just are not paying attention. Yesterday about a mile from my house a guy on a HD was struck by a full size van when the van cut in front of him. He wasn't as lucky as you. Driver claimed he didn't see him, which is probably true, but he just wasn't looking. It is up to us to do the looking for both vehicles. I've always assumed that if another vehicle has the chance to pull in front of me they will. And many times they have. It ain't fair, but it's the way it is.

Matt, that sucks and I hope everything turns out good.

3 in a week! Jeez people. Understand that they do NOT see you. Especially youse up in the north. These morons haven't seen bikes in months. Expect every friggin one of them to do something stupid. Back off or speed up to provide some cushion of space. Be aware of what is happening ALL around you. See that idiot to the left of you? Bet the farm that they will drive into you to make a right turn.

"But officer, I never saw him!"

Glad you're OK and at the risk of sounding like a jerk. Based on where he hit you, maybe you were riding in his blind spot. That would be anothe lesson learned.

OK, let the flaming begin!

Best of luck to you. Jeez seems the casualty rate is somewhat high around this neighborhood in the past days.

Guess we better all park our bikes and "redeploy"

CRAZY!!! Everyones getting hit! Ride scared, especially early in the season. People need to get used to seeing us on the road again.

I've read 3 this week. Is it always like this on this site?

No, this is much higher than the normal rate of accidents around here. Usually we get about 1 a month, if that. As pointed out though, this time of year is particularly dangerous as bikes get ridden after a long winter layoff.

Glad to hear you're okay Matt.

The last couple of days I have had a higher sense of awareness in my daily commute....mostly just from reading of the unfortunate circumstances of others posted here.

For that..I thank ya'll.

I have often thought if something occured like this I would keep it to myself but all things considered it seems a good idea to publicize it.

Glad you're OK.

Was beautiful here in Cincy. Got out myself for a great ride. Everybody that owns a bike was on the road.

Hope you get back out soon!

hi,
sorry to hear about the hit. I got taken out in Jan and I have only just my bike back last week.I am Still trying to get the other insurance company to admit liability. The car did not give way on a round about, it resulted in almost £2000 worth of damage to my bike. I was gutted when it happened, but just hang in there and I hope it all turns out OK. What is it about this time of year, every car driver appears out get us?
Ride safe.

Sorry to hear of yet another one of our fellow riders being "invisible" out there Matt, but not to worry. Everything will turn out okay and that beauty o' yours(which from the photo doesn't appear to be all that much worse for the wear) will be cruisin' down those board flat Nebraskan highways with you(now a little wiser) atop her in no time.

(been there a time or two myself...all this present worry of yours will fade very soon)

NOW people...I WANT THIS TO STOP!!!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I hate to say this but get yourself a Jewish lawyer, get a chiroprator see your doctor twice a week and complain to everyone who will listen your back and neck is killing you.

We all know how you feel about the bike not being the same again but from the picture you posted it does not look to bad.

Bottom line, you were well protected and you are "ok" good lesson for everyone else to make sure were well protected when riding.

I hate to point this out, but in the cooler climates this is the most common time of the year for bike vs car crashes. The cages aint used to seeing us and we aint used to dodgeing tham. It will take a month of so of good weather for bikes to start registering in minds when seen. I know 3 or 4 long time riders that wont get out there until May because of this.I'm not saying stay off the roads. But be more defencive in your riding style for a bit.

And well Matt, sounds like you may have been in his blind spot.

Sorry to hear that Matt. Glad you're OK though, and able to offer a testimonial for protective equipment.
The bike doesn't look totaled, but don't worry about it not being the same. A competent repair shop can fix it up just like new, maybe you can get some new bits too.

Hauled the bike up to the dealer and they are working on an estimate. I'm also hurting like nobody's business. Every joint in the right half of my body has been throbbing all day.

I'm not planning to go overboard with the injuries - I don't believe in trying to exaggerate my injuries whatsoever, but I'm in medical school and I know the importance of getting EVERYTHING that is sore looked at and watched until it gets better. I am worried about my neck especially, as it has just been rock-hard tight all day.

Thank you everyone for the warm wishes! I'm on spring break this week and will be just taking it easy until I feel better.

Anyways, here's some more pictures. Hard to really see the damage in the photos, but it's very much there. There's really not a single piece in the whole right side of the bike that isn't broken, dented or scratched. It's going to take a lot of new parts for them to try making this new again.
