It is advisable to put something over or guard the lower part of the tubes where they slide into the lower fork legs. If a rock should happen to ding your fork slides there, it could slice into a fork seal causing it to leak. There's different ways to safeguard the tubes...from gaiters that Brent sells, to stone guards like the ones that come standard on the regular Bonnevilles, or some chrome fork boot caps(Harley parts sources are good here as they have a few models with the same 41mm fork tubes we have). Gaiters are the most popular though. Brent used a couple of pics of my bike to showcase the ones he sells.

Installation is fairly straight forward. Just jack up the bike and strap it down, then do one fork leg at a time.
