One thing you might want to consider is
this little jobber. It's made for the KLR650 but fits the TBA/SM tail light perfectly.
It's WAY brighter than an 1157 bulb but draws much less power.
It has a very cool X pattern AND it can be set to flash. I get tons of positive comments on mine.
