I purchased my 2002 Bonneville America used with 2500 miles on it March of last year. Customized it, put some performance mods on it, about 1200 miles, and gave her a lot of my time. Now she is gone...
Last Tuesday afternoon around 4:40pm I was going for a ride on my custom Triumph. It sure was nice... Anyways... I was coming out of a gas station driveway near an intersection a 1/4 mile from my house. The light at the intersection was red on this 4 lane road.
The cars were stopped at the red light and 2 cars had stopped before the driveway to let me through. They waved me on so I slowly went past the two cars to take a left on the road. I looked to my right and saw nothing coming so I took off.
Next thing I know my leg is crushed and my bike was pushed sideways. Somehow I managed to keep the bike up and drive it into the field on the side of the road.
I parked my bike only to see oil spewing out of my engine, my exhaust crushed, the exhaust head pulled out of the engine, and my frame is bent. I looked at my leg and it was all lumpy but I must have been in shock because I was walking on it.
A volunteer fireman persuaded me to sit on the tailgate of his truck and wait for the paramedics. I refused going to the hospital because at the time my leg wasn't really bothering me. I shook the hand of the guy that hit me and thanked him for not running me over.
After the police report was taken I actually pushed my bike home. I then took a shower and collapsed. My leg is f**ked. So my fiancé drives me to the emergency room they take me right in do x-rays and come to find out my ankle has a hairline fracture. The doctor couldn't really see my leg bone because of the massive contusions. It may have a hairline fracture also but I have to wait for the swelling to go down. I have a foot brace on at the moment and can't walk.
This sucks but I thank God that all I have is a busted bike and a busted leg. It could have been so much worse. There was definitely an angel on my shoulder helping me keep that bike up and not laying it down to get run over. I am thankful to be alive.
