I don't know about other state's laws, but here (MT) you can get licensed through DMV to operate your 4-wheel atv for street use. Under the heading "you don't see what you're unaccustomed to", I am constantly reminding myself to look for anything. Nothing like pulling onto a blind intersection on main street, which doubles as a state highway and waiting for three pickups, a minivan, two 18 wheelers, an atv, followed by another truck.

Now, I have many friends who use 4-wheelers for work and play, but am still unnerved by them zooming up and down the streets/highways. I'd rather be on my 2 wheeler at 60+ mph on asphalt than a short wheel base, nobby tired, squirrely 4 wheeler.

OK, so it rained all night and when I took the dog outside at dark-thirty, both he and I did the "Tennessee Two-Step" in a world of ice. And that was before my first cup of coffee. He bit the dust, I pulled a muscle or three. Rant over, keep your eyes open.

Yeah, what's up with -20 degrees for the HIGH a few days ago and rain today? Supposed to be in the 50's this weekend. If I thought all the snow and ice would be gone by then I'd take the scoot out for a little jaunt.

When it was about -10 I saw a guy riding an ATV. JEEEEEZ, I guess those Carhart arctic suits really do work. He had cardboard boxes duct taped over the grips with holes in the back, so I guess we know how good his gloves were.

And people think I'm crazy for riding in the upper 30's...

John,
They are not legal here in Pa., but they and every other non-legal conveyance can be found on the back roads. Dirtbikes, pocket bikes, powered scooters, and even kids on skateboards are just part of the fun. Add love-sick deer, brain-dead teenagers, frazzled minivan/cel phone/soccer moms, and the usual assortment of morons and you either pay attention or you pay a visit to the emergency room....

I would love to be able to rejoin them, but the snow and ice and salt and cold are stopping me.

More flags More fun!

Grump,

Before incurring a response from 4-wheelers here, I spoke to a law officer friend. So long as they have a valid m/c endorsement, headlights, brake lights and use proper hand signals, everything is legal. Just another "out to get me" thing to watch for.
