Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55

http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/40689307

Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp sang vocals on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Longtime." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002.

He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade.

The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall.

On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

A call to the Swampscott, Mass., home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

Personally devastating to me, as he was one of my all time favorites, I named my first son after him....

Dam*, just heard a few Boston tunes on the XM last night in the car. Mentioned to my wife, that was the first album I purchased at 15 years old.
Purchased at our local Kresges department store, still has the sticker, $2.99 I believe. I still have it in my collection, it's a bit worn. Might have to spin it up this evening in rememberance.
RIP.

This is a shame.

Boston(along with The Beach Boys and The Eagles) are absolutely great at the lost art of the harmony. I turn up my car radio every time one of their songs is played.

RIP Brad.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Bummer, I saw these guys twice back in the day. They were way ahead of there time. They have to have one of the tightest sounds in Rock. They sound just as good live as on record. This band really struggled early on. As a matter of fact I discovered the first album in the discount rack before More Than A Feeling hit the air ways.
I wore that sucker out, a few months later they busted wide open on FM. And as they say" the rest is history"
What a shame.
We were just another band out of Boston!

Indeed... Love the first Boston album, tracks he sang are some the first I appreciated as a kid, and still play often. A classic band...superb polished vocals, harmonies and musicianship, a very sad loss.

I remember when my friend first got his licence and got to drive his moms bright red Dodge Stealth. He pulled up to where we were meating wearing aviators and blasting "Foreplay". So fitting. So funny. Awesome song!! Will be missed for sure.

I was just telling my 13 yo daughter about the the phenomenal success of the debut album the other day. I remember it like it was yesterday, no small feat given the era.

Delp played in a local Beatles tribute band and was a pretty regular caller on the local radio morning show. But I still had no idea he lived in Atkinson. I have probably seen him around here and never known. Too bad, they are playing a lot of rare Boston today and theres some cool stuff that never gets airtime. Its sad that we have to lose someone, before they airtime.

Kind of amazing that the first album was the demo recorded in Scholz's own basement studio, on his own 24 track, and was pretty much taken and pressed as the album. Gotta wonder how often something like that has ever occurred.

Met the man on several occasions...nice guy...even sat in with a cover band I was doing sound for in a club (Diamonds) in Tewksbury MA for a couple of sets...nice guy and a talent..he never once made you feel like he was anything but a regular guy (even if we felt he was more than a "regular Joe")

Sad news indeed!
