 now or wait?

My new Speedmaster is on order, should be here in a couple weeks. I ordered some D&D's along with it, should be here around the same time, (I had them on my last SM, before it got totaled and I got temporarily wheelchaired by an unliscenced, uninsured driver, sorry, another story.)
Anyhoo, I was wondering, should I have the D&D's put on the new bike, or should I wait until its "broken in" after 200, 300 miles. I heard it both ways from different guys at the dealership, from "wait until the break in" to "it doesn't matter."
So put the pipes on now or wait? I'll take any excuse to not drive around for two weeks with the silencers.

I'd have that AI yanked and the pipes & jets installed right off the bat. You'll be running the engine closer to the way it was really designed to run anyway. You'll still have to take it easy the first 500 miles - the break in wouldn't be any different, it would just sound and run better.
I changed mine before the break in period was up. I would have done it initially but they had to order the exhausts. When they came in, I got it changed. Had a little blueing from the first 300 miles or so, but I was able to clean it off with Semichrome. Has never been a bluing problem since.

Only reason I can think of to wait is the extra temptation to open it up and hear the pipes working. How's your self control?

Hey Benjammin, which color did you get, I ordered a Mulberry Red Speedy, and I plan on removing the AI, changing the jets and installing the Bub's Slashcut pipes before I ride it. I had D&D's on my TBA, but wanted to try different pipes this time.
Triumph Scrambler Diablo Red & Silver (2014), Arrow Exhaust, FI remapped with TTP #4, 16 tooth sprocket, Triumph Gel Solo seat & Rack, Progressive 440 1" lowered Shocks, SAI & O2 Removal, Airbox Restrictor Plate removed.

I had them order me a mulberry red, too. The only one they had on the floor was a two-tone red one, so I had 'em order the one I really wanted. Funny thing is, they still have an 06 demo Speedy they were (supposedly) dying to get rid of, but wouldn't sell it for less than $400 less then a new one, and it was all black. I told them I liked the demo but if I get the color I wanted for only $400 more, I would do that, (hint, hint.) They no come down on price, so they 07 is on the way. Anyway, thanks for everyone's input. Looks like I'll be driving away with D&D's and no AI.

Hey, you from Colorado as well! Cool! Did you go to Erico's or Foothills? There's about 3-4? members of this site from around the Denver area. Would be great if we could all get together in the summer and ride! Mole

Put them on! Would you really be able to stand riding 500 miles on a stealth bike?

I think you buy all the "improvements" you are contemplating as quickly as possible. As prices historically tend to creep upward, money invested on the front end will actually save you in the long run. My .02¢

If the dealer does any parts swapping, be sure to get all the OEM parts unless the dealer is willing to offer you credit on them. They're yours to off on ebay, or what have you. I hear tell too often of folks leaving stock parts behind at the dealer in the excitement of getting a new bike. The old stock pipes should be able to command around $50 plus shipping on ebay. There are a few of us oddballs out there who buy stock Triumph pipes and saw on them and such. When you pull the AI, check into carb balancing as early as possible. The left side has a lot more draw on it to pull the AI than the right side. It won't hurt anything to leave it out of balance, but your from idle to low end RPM & launches will be smoother with balanced carbs.

Thanks Martin, I HAD left the stock pipes behind, and probably wouldn't have thought to go get them if you hadn't metioned it. (I did with my last bike.) They'll be on ebay soon enough.

Be a good idea to save those stock pipes and AI for the day they start emissions checks on bikes.
