In keeping with "buy the cat a canary" philosophy, I recently bought a pair of custom built Langlitz western pants. Having a 38" inseam, finding anything "off-the-rack" just wasn't going to happen .

I've been using my old cowboy days stovepipe chaps for a number of years, but the flapping was driving me nuts. Anyway, I got these in goatskin as it is more pliable than cowskin. Have taken a few rides so far and they are nice(). The fit is perfect, which it should be since I had to take about 15 measurements for the order form. They'll be warmer since we seem to have too many months of off-season riding around here.

In closing, thanks for paying your ba.com dues. It helped defray the purchase price & responsibility of being a forum moderator$$. Let the product testing continue........................

A few years back Triumph issued $500 vouchers. I had pretty much already done everything to my BA, so I bought a lightbar which is very functional, but makes my BA look like a golf cart. I also bought a pair of Triump leather jeans, they're like 501 Levis, but leather. Some might think leather pants are sort of Village People like, but these are great in cold weather and comfortable.
I once barrowed a pair of chaps for a long ride and the flapping nearly put my legs to sleep.

Langlitz are top drawer, enjoy.

Yes indeed they are. I ordered a catalog and it arrived today. $750.00 bills for leather pants with the option of goatskin and more with other options.

Nice stuff but too rich for my blood at the moment.

HA, that's exactly what got me banned from a group of my baby brothers friends. I bought a Vanson jacket last Fall and later went to a local bike night. Bob and his buddies are all big Harley riders and they all hang out together at bike nights. It was a bit chilly that night and I wore my new jacket and some insulated work jeans. Bob commented that I should get some chaps as they would keep me warmer. I replied "Yeah maybe, but chaps just look too Village People for me." Of course evey one of them was wearing leather chaps I was shunned by all of them but my brother and his wife after that so I went back to harrassing the police chief (a Shrine buddy).

OK,

Which way is going to be? If I wear my old cowboy chaps is that "Village People", or the pants is that "Village People"? I'm going to inform all the cattlemen I work with that they're nothing but a bunch of "Village People Wannabes"

Don't know for sure. Just looked and Wikipedia credits them with the comedy version (scroll down to Origin) where the line is mentioned.

Get your tickets, everyone's a comedian.. here's a portion of the lyric, best sung by Tex Ritter IMO

As I walked out in the streets of Laredo,
As I walked out in Laredo one day.
I spied a young cowboy all wrapped in white linen,
All wrapped in white linen, as cold as the clay.

"I can see by your outfit that you are a cowboy,"
These words he did say as I boldly walked by.
"Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story;
I am shot in the breast and I know I must die.

Stereotypes aside, I just spent the evening implementing a rule how youth horse riders should all be wearing helmets, how's that for irony? Head injury isn't funny.

Yeah but the satyrical version went.
Solo:
"I can tell by your oufit that you are a cowboy"
reply:
"I can tell by your outfit that you're a cowboy too"
Together:
"You can tell by our outfits, that we are both cowboys,
if you get an outfit, you can be a cowboy too."

I should also mention that the shapely young ladies looked just fine in their tight fitting chaps on that warm summer evening. The wannabe badass bikers just looked silly

Larry,

This all reminds me of a Spike Van Cleve "Forty Years of Gatherings" story, who ran a dude ranch by Big Timber and a bunch of Chicago women came for a visit. They sauntered down to the corrals the first morning, wearing only chaps and unmentionable lower garments. Caused a stir and a few red faces. After a quick retreat to add jeans to the ensemble, everyone had a fine day.

But this whole thread is about covering your butt, not bearing it .

Chaps may keep you warmer on cold days but the part that gets road rash is not covered. I'd go for a pair of leather trousers to protect my little pink butt as well as keep me warm. Also so I wouldn't look like I should be standing next to a cop, a sailor, an Indian and all those other guys Besides whenever I see some guy trying to look tough while wearing chaps I'm reminded of Eugene Levy in the movie "Armed and Dangerous" with John Candy. I'd rather ride a pink Vespa

I'm down with the snow pants my Moms bought me at Goodwill.
We also bought some footwear. Since my right foot is two sizes
bigger than my left, we had to get one shoe and one boot.
The kids all call me shabooty now.

Mert, I think Triumph might still make the leather "501s" for women. The comfort is shocking and they are very well made, worth the $.

That's the only draw back of the Triumph leather "501s", they don't have a button fly.

Mert, You are right. Triumph doesn't show my leather 5 pocket jeans on the web site anymore. The latest clothing range brochure I have is 2005 and it has womens' 5 pocket leather jeans shown.
You can probably go to your dealer and they should be able the find them on their computer. Many things that have been discontinued in the recent brochures are still available. I found out about Septres on this site in 2004. Team Triumph at the time had an old Triumph price list on their site and most of the items no longer in the later brochures were still available.
As a side note, with your long legs you'll look hot in leather jeans.

I picked up a pair of leather over pants last year. I love them. They are very comfortable. It also means that I dont have to change pants when I ride to work.
