oh, ok I'll wade in (all IMHO of course) Yes there would be less drug crime (buying/selling cannabis that is)but there would be more societal upset in other areas - I think it would be at least as bad as alcohol which takes a terrible toll.
Now I speak as one who has had fun and trouble from alcohol and drugs but I believe the world would be a better place if access to both were harder. Alcohol is already "out of the bag" in most places. Let's not let the marijuana cat out until/unless we have to.
