Need some advice here:
Have an '03 Speedy. Did the Ghetto Freak, 2 shims, no AI, Wrapped TOR Longs... But I'm having a helluva time getting the main jet right.
The Magic Dinqua Carb Software had me WAY rich. Said I should go with 157.5s, I tried 155s and 160s, both were way too rich.
I just put in 150s, and she's happier... but I don't think she's quite right still.
So here's my question: I don't have 145s lying around, but I do have a set of 142s. D'ya think I'm gonna melt something if I try this? I know what these engines are supposed to feel like when they're jetted properly, and this just ain't it.
The other option is to wait and see if i can find some 145s locally (I'm sick to death of ordering this stuff)... but I already have a pile of mainjets lying around, and I don't need another set.
:P
Suggestions?

Put the bike on a dyno man, you can get a baseline run for about 30 bucks

My setup is pretty close to yours. Ghetto Freak, 2 shims, no AI, Thunderbikes, and Brent's Thumbscrews.
I originally started with 146.5's but had to go way open on the Idle mixture screws to alleviate mucho decel popping. Like you, I'm currently running 150's, but the bike runs a little better when choked. So, I was planning on bumping the mains up to 152 or 155 until I read your post.
Now I guess I'll try the 45 pilots I have stashed instead. The 146.5 mains didn't do it for my setup which is pretty close to yours.
Regards,
Tom

I have the screws as well, and the TORs I'm running are the straight-through types.
If you decide you wanna try the 155s, we should get togehter and swap -- I have a pair of 155s and 160s that're lying dormant.
I also need to check to see if the port-side vacuum seal on the top side of the carb is seated properly -- when we pulled it apart last time we had a bear of a time getting it back in... so we sort've stuffed it in and hoped it would self seat. I'm wondering if that's the problem, I'll find out tomorrow. Still, you'd think the bike would be consistently wonky -- right now, teh low end is much better than it was, but the top end is utter crap.

I can tell you that the TOR's are not breathing as easy as the Thunderbikes...even the straight thru ones (I had those) and at 135's (no freak) I was rich...now with the SS pipes the bike is much happier so the TOR's can throw your #'s off you can dial those pipes in nicely but they (Triumph) has SOOO many different versions you may find Pat's calcs a bit off from reality (only because of the different versions not because of his software)

Sorry, I'd swap if I still had the 146.5's. A member on-site graciously gave them to me to try. When I bumped up, I sent them back to him. I'll let you know how the 45 pilots do at a later date. Right now I'm in the middle of a Ghetto-lid paint job.

If you try the smaller jets, put in a new set of plugs at the same time. That will tell you what you need to know. If they are bright white after a hard ride with WOT, then get them out of there and put in a size larger. You should put in new plugs now to get a good base reading.
I suspect the TORs are a bottleneck. Without removing baffles, they are almost as restrictive as stock pipes. Even with the ghetto freak, you can only pump in as much air as you can pull out.

You'd have to run way lean for a LONG time to melt anything. The 142s should be fine for some testing.

hm, I put these variables in: TOR's - Stock Stock paper filter Drilled air box (Non-Freak/Nark) 42 Pilots Stock needles 2 shims All snorkles removed Sea Level I get: 128 mains. How did you end up with 157.5??? Those TORs are a bear to dial in sometimes. There are a lot of different variations of them. More info needed...
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

NOOOOo. I'm running pods, not the drop-in. Furthermore (and this may be my screwup) i used the "no baffles" setting, as they're straight through (no obstructions). I'm told some of the earlier TORs had actual baffles in 'em. Also, running 145 Pilots.
I have 145s and new plugs en route from B.C., so I'll let y'all know how it goes.
