OK ~~ I bought the flush mount gas cap from Brent's sight. Now, how do I install the thing? I was under the impression that I just unscrewed the old gas cap and screwed in the new one. If there more? What are the two installation pins for? Do we need them for the America? Which gasket do we use? Please don't call me stupid. Dumb, maybe ~~ but not stupid.

i think most of use used the non-ring shaped gasket. remove two of the little allen head screws from the cap; like at 3 and 9 oclock. don't drop or lose em. they are tiny.
screw in the installation pins and use the length of a screw driver or similar item laid across the cap and in between the pins to turn and tighten the base into the space on the gas tank. remove the pins screw in the tiny little allen bolts.
hope this makes sense. i don't really speak mechanicish.

Hey, dummy!

I can't remember which gasket I used (which wasn't that long ago)...dang pea-brain of mine. I think I used the larger tapered one.

Unscrew two of the screws on the gas cap base (opposite of each other). Screw the two brass thingies in.

Start threading the flush mount base in by hand (leave the cap installed). Carefully use a long screwdriver (or similar device) against the brass thingies to snug the gas cap base down.

Leaving the cap in, unscrew the brass thingies and but the screws back in.

You leave the cap in place to keep from dropping screws and such inside the tank.

Hope that helps.

I also used the largest gasket. Either will work but the thicker one gets the cap more flush with the dash. You have to tighten the entire unit snug with the brass posts. After about a month, I would check it again (with the brass posts) as you may need to snug it up after the rubber gasket settles in.

Be sure the inner cap is in when changing the posts/screws. You don't want to drop one in the tank.

Sounds like a hassle to do.

It's a technical term...for I don't know what I'm talking about

Piece of cake. 5 minutes if you can use both hands - 10 minutes if you only use one.

It is a very nice looking cap, but if you have the mis fortune to lay it down it leaks very badly..don't ask how I know.

I just bought one at a swap meet, real cheap. Now I know why it was cheap. No brass screws or plastic "key"!
Don't think I need the key, but anyone know any alternate way to fit this on without them brass screws?

Mole, the only function of the brass posts are to aid in tightening the assembly to the tank by laying a screwdriver across them. If you could find some longer screws of the same threading, they could stick up and work about the same. You can get extra keys (I don't remember the part number) from Kuryakyn. I found an extra one at the close out counter at my local Harley dealer. They were getting rid of anything that didn't have the Harley name on the package. They pay the manufacturers to package in Harley packaging so they can charge much more for it.

If you take off your console, you can get a strap wrench on outside of the Kuryakyn cap and tighten it.
