We're looking at The Martha's Vineyard factor here - because of our 90 mile proximity to NYC, it's becoming too expensive for any but the wealthy. The town of Salisbury, CT has a poulation of roughly 4,000. Well over one half of the homes there are owned by NYC weekenders, who arrive Friday night, and leave Sunday night. That has it's pros and cons when we're talking town taxes collected vs. services utilized, but the cost of housing has skyrocketed. A number of old time lakeside cabin dwellers have been displaced due to recent tax re-vals. Their 2 or 3 season cabins built by Grampa in the 20s or 30s are now considered multi million dollar properties, with five figure tax bills. Kinda hard to come up with ten grand for the tax man on 40 or 50 thousand per year or less gross income.
