Just got my bike back together after getting the tank and fenders back from the painter. I went with a new scheme with House of Kolor Kandy rootbeer and creme. It came out really, really nice. Plus I added an Avon AM23 200 rear tire. I bought a 16inch rear wheel from a 2002 Triumph Thunderbird and then had an Excel 5.5inch wide rim laced to the hub. I mounted the 200/60-v16 tire. I have maybe a 1/4 inch of room between the chain and the tire. Can't go much wider. WOW, what a look. I posted pictures in my gallery in anybody would care to see.

Hey Paul,
You outdid yourself on this one friend. Yamaha made a VStar1100 with black and chocolate brown and I love that mix of colors. But your Kandy Rootbeer is incredible! Excellent blend of kolors that defines the bike and rider. I gladly give it a 10 - but I'd put about half of the rear fender back on it just to get some more of that beautiful color and still show off the tire.
Oh, and by the way - That Tire makes your hind end look really fat. Maybe you should ask your bride, but it does!

Dennis

Hey Fryguy,
SWEEEEET! I love that color scheme and the tire is awesome.
Well done!
Just out of curiosity, do you know if the front tire can go
any larger?

Outstanding job.
Now take another picture with the garage door closed and the old tire back in place, then both pix of the different colors will line up real purdy like.
Truly that's one beautiful bike though.

The rear rim is an Excel 5.5". I got it from Buchanan spoke and rim for $350. I bought a 2002 Thunderbird rear rim off of ebay for $75. Thunderbirds use a stock 16 inch rim. Thunderbird sports use a stock 17inch rim. The Thunderbirds use the same hub as the BA's and SM's. Buchanan Spoke will drill the holes in the rim to fit the stock spokes. I had my dealer laced the new, wider rim to the stock 16 hub and spokes. I bought the rear Avon AM23 at a local Hog shop for $150. It really takes up all the space in the rear end. I have about a quarter inch clearance on either side of the tire. It fits under the rear fender really nice and snug. The 200/60v-16 is actually the same height as the stock 170-80-h15.

I love the color scheme. There is actually gold striping where the rootbeer and cream meet but its hard to tell in the pictures.

Thanks for the compliments. Its really something to see in person.

The 200 rear tire isn't as crisp as the 170 or 180 setup in cornering but thats not a big deal. The balance of the whole bike still blows most other cruisers away in the corners. You have to turn in a little sooner. The Avon is a really sticky tire and it grabs quick. Off the line it grabs and go's. So far this has been my favorite asthetic mod ans most expensive. I also chromed the handlebar controls, added stainless steel lines for the brakes as well as throttle and clutch to go along with all of my other mods I had done to this point. The bike really grabs you in person. I am very proud of what I have done so far. Thanks everybody.

why could'nt you just use the stock hub on the TBA and have that laced to the excel rim?

I could have used the stock hub from the BA but I would have had to buy longer spokes since the BA's and the SM's use a 15inch rear rim. I bought the 16 inch rear Thunderbird wheel because I wanted to go taller plus the Thunderbird rim uses 40 spokes instead of 32 that the BA's use. Its a case of 6 of one or a half dozen of the other. I spent $75 for a 16 inch rim and hub or use the stock hub and spend at least $75 for longer spokes. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Did you match up the front number of spokes with the rear?

Wojo, I didn't match up the front wheel yet. I am still running the stock 18 inch BA wheel. I am looking to lace up a 21 inch -40 spoke front wheel. It just a matter of time and money.

That will look fantastic when you do it though. I know the feeling with time and money, especially the money issue right now.

First off, Beautiful Bike...this is the exact style I'm looking to do, so don't get mad if I steal you 200 Tire idea.....quick question, you chromed the controls, did you just take apart your stock controls and have them chromed?

Yes, actually I had the stock controls chromed while I am searching for a set of low profile controls I can retrofit onto my bars. I actually like the PM controls small rounded controls but I am still looking. I have a set of Choppers INC Whiskey Bars on now. I did pick up a set of 6 inch Z-bars that I am going to put on to see how they look. I have no problem with you using a 200 series tire. I don't get mad like that.

Jaeger,

Been down that way a few times on my Daytona when I had her. I knew a guy who raced for John at SkyKing racing. I used to visit him to dial in my Daytona. Great Roads down there. Let me know how often you go to Philly, we can do a few rides.

I just added z-bars to the bike and took off the Choppers Inc. Whiskey bars. I have 6 inch risers on it and I think it may be a little too tall. I am going to post a few more pics.

I actually have a 21" front wheel and rotor from a 2004 sportster that I am going to try an fit up. I don't whether I want to machine a new front axle to fit the smaller harley hub or wait until I replace the front end with the 41mm harley downtubes and lowers. I am still riding due to the unseasonable good weather we are having here in the NE. I usually tear the bike down during the winters. At least thats how its been the past two winters. The bike is usually just a frame and motor sitting in a jig the whole winter

Is that going to be any cheaper or easier than finding a Thunderbird front hub and getting it laced up with a 21" hoop? Has anybody else (beside Euroshop) done a 21" wheel?

Don't know exactly. I did that with the rear wheel. Total cost was around $600. The front wheel and rotor cost me $100. The Fork tubes and lowers cost me $150. Figure I got maybe $300 to play with.

Thanks. I always loved the rootbeer and creme combination. The pictures don't do it enough justice. The scheme is beautiful in person but I have a biased opinion!
