Found this posted over on the Delphi Bonneville forum. Seems as though this guy in Cape Coral, Florida works at a dealership and bought a high miles America for $200. Here's part of his post:
-------------------------------- About three weeks ago, we got in a Bonnie America on trade. We gave him nothing for it because of the mileage, and general appearance. I was told that it had to sell for at least 500.oo, and with tax, tag, and title, it would be around 700 bucks. Go figure, my boss was wrong, and I baught it today, out the door for under 200.oo........
I now have the commuter bike I need to allow me to do all the mods on the Bonnie black. It's a 2002 America with Triumph touring windscreen, TOR's, pannier rails, sissy bar, aux light bar, brand new tires, and luggage rack. It runs perfect, and has............... 71 thousand miles on it. -------------------------------
Imagine that, a running bike for $200. Lucky stiff!

WOW 71K is easily the most miles I have heard of. I have a hard time believing that new of a running bike is that cheap tho, but more power to him!! Hell that is almost worth it just to get a motor to bore out... You could repaint the frame and sell it for more.

Here's the bike: I told him if he ever wants to sell it to post it over here. Siad he figures he could get 2 grand for it. Still would make a good project bike for that price. Just drop in a big bore kit to freshen it up and off you go.

Uh, I don't see a whole lot wrong with the appearance. I find this whole thing VERY hard to believe. Even parting out a crashed bike would get at least a grand.

Yeah, me either. He says because it's a high mileage bike the dealer doesn't want it sitting around. I've heard of dealer employees scoring great deals on trade ins, but this one is over the top.

Well you can ask him about this weekend if you're in the FT Myers, Florida area. He posted about the Triumph demo truck being in town this weekend. He goes by the name of Sightglass on the Delphi Bonnie forum.
Feb 23rd and 24th 16090 S Tamiami Trail (RT 41) Ft Myers Fl (239) 481-8100
"we're having a hog roast saturday while the Demo truck is in town. We'll also be at Victory Lane cafe' tomorrow in N Ft Myers for their monthly bike night / show. Corner of Handcock Bridge Pky and Orange Grove Blvd from 6 to 9 pm."

I was supposed to make it over there but we still have a couple hundred miles to get the bikes broken in and there's no roads there at less than 65mph (and they WILL run you over).
I really wanted to go just for the ride and see newt but a proper break-in is WAY more important.

I believe this story,, good deals are out there IF YOU LOOK. I myself ,on a business trip to New York, ran into this poor, out of work guy on the street and he sold me his Rolex for $50.00 bucks....of course it now says "olex" on the dial but that was 20 years ago and I suppose they make them better now.

Hard to believe.
Where's Paul Harvey with "The rest of the story..."? Somebody sleeping with the boss? Or maybe pictures of the boss sleeping with...?
One thing's for sure; I'd never luck into a deal like that!

Sounds to me like the owner of the dealership, basically gave it to the guy to get rid of it. Kind of a testimony to the TBA though, 71,000 miles and no work done to the engine?

I agree! Great deals do exist. Why, I bought a 1978 Spitfire from Budweiser some time back for a measly $500.00. About $8500.00 later, the thing sort of runs when it wants to...

I see about 2 or 3 grand worth of extras on it, I think the story is bull.

an 02 Ba is expected to have 24k miles with an average trade in of approx $3430 so if you triple the miles and divide the trade in value by 3 you come up with $1143 and the dealer wont give you any extra cash for accesories and will low ball you so its not to far fetch. clicky

Hmmm.... I see 2 grand worth of stuff just on the left side of the bike; floorboards, pipes, chrome battery cover, chrome side case, sissy bar, luggage rack, light bar, wind screen, holy cow man.... 71 thousand miles...I would be cautious about dumping a fresh bullet in that bike though; (tranny and frame wear and tear).

But what would that same dealer turn around and retail that bike for? Comments on this thread imply that he could have reasonably got 2-3K (tripled his money). Dealers around here aren't that generous to their own employees. I still say there's some compromising pictures...

Ya, nice of ya to boot me in the arse when I tell ya about the bike. Se how well I adjust your valves............. Just kidding bro, and for all the rest of you guys, here's the skinny. The price of the bike was 100$ Tax, tag, title, and dealer fees came to 181$ When I posted over on delphi, I had miscalculated the fees, and never fixed my post. Out the door was 281$ The pics posted don't show all the rust common to chrome that hasn't been properly cared for. It also had some issues with the electrical system like no brake lights, and the aux driving lights inop. The paint is in pretty good shape except for rub marks from one of those leather tank trim things. I spent sunday and today working on her. It runs well, but does nees the valves adjusted, oil change, brake fluid flushed, and carbs synced. She'll run as good as any stock America can with TOR's on it when all is said and done. It needs a lot of time cleaning it up, and the rims are beyond hope in a few spots.I spent almost three hours just polishing the wind screen it was so hazed over. I also had to make a bracket for my EZ-Pass. I just got luckey on this one. When we first got the bike in, it was offered to our newest tech who's bike got stolen while going to school in Daytona. It really wasn't his thing, and would have cost him around 700 for a bike he didn't really like. After about two weeks, it wound up that they could let it go for much less, and I jumped on it. Normally a bike like this would be sold wholesale to a local used bike dealer. Our boss decided to throw us a bone figuring the other guy would jump on it. He wants a newer BMW, and I wanted a commuter bike to keep my black Bonnie out of the summer rains. My name is Pete, and I do work for Gulf Coast MC in Ft Myers Fl. If any still doubts this deal on the bike, I'll have it at the shop this Saturday when newt drops his bike off for some needed service. I'll be checking in here on a daily bassis, and if anybody needs help or part numbers for OE stuff, just give me a shout. I have access to Triumph's dealer site from home, and can pull up numbers in an instant with availability, and MSRP. Pete

A bunch of doubting Thomas', I tell ya, Pete. I'm the only one who believed the story, so take care of those that believed. To h3ll with these other guys! (and good luck with that gem. She should be just fine after you get it sorted out. You may now be the hi-milage champ of BA. com. Take care of it while we try to catch up your clock.)

Rub marks? Is that what Harley salesmen call their potential customers? Did one of them brush up against the bike?
Welcome to the site Pete. I didn't mean to stir up trouble for you by posting your story. Funny how the guys over at the Delphi Bonnie forum seemed to take your bargain in stride, but people here doubted it from the get go. I guess it's because we value the Americas and Speedmasters more than you Bonneville owners. Hope you enjoy your stay here, and find some useful info along the way.

No problem what so ever, and last I checked, the America and Speedmaster are Bonnevilles too Maybe I can pass along some good info along the way too.
