 FREAK problems....

All, many moons ago I installed the FREAK...a bad-****** mod, I might add.
Anyhoo, I also began noticing chain slap. My guess is that I jumped the gun in my previous posts where I claimed to have no slap. Got my bike apart after a trip to Mexico, and noticed the toolbox was ground down on one corner. Granted, its not that bad, and its taken over 6k miles to show...but...
Is there any fix besides removing the toolbox and bending the tab up? I really like having the toolbox in there.
Thanks,
Xtern0

I can't offer a fix since I never had an issue but did want to say I have had the freak in mine for over 6K miles and even when the chain came loose it never hit the box. How loose is your chain? Something doesn't jive. I found the freak easy to work with and like it.

I've heard of this... My box isn't in there, but my chain is not hitting any bracketry or anything... I'd say try scooting the box over to one side or just plain carv out the corner of the tool box... of course it won't be water tight but hey.

Hi, have had the same problem, but only in Louisiana, or someother place with really lousy roads. About the only two things you can do are to keep a close eye on your chain tension, and maybe dial the pre-load on your shocks up a notch. You may get a slightly harsher ride, but it'll be alot harder to bottom the rear end out to where the chain drags into the tool box.

It should be noted that Brent and his crew have fixed the problem since I bought my FREAK. It will not be an issue on a FREAK purchased within the last 6-10 months or so...to the best of my knowledge.
However, I wouldn't mind some advice on how to fix one of the older ones.
Thanks,
X

I cut the tab off with my dremel and bought a rubbermaid little sandwich box that fits in there and is still watertight. Just measure the toolbox or take it to the store anf find one that is about 1½" shorter. (3.81cm for the ferners)

The little tab at the side on the rearmost part that is held on by the rear fender, it holds the end of the toolkit in place. It is directly above the chain. At least it was on the earlier versions. It is about a 1" protrusion and 1" upward bend.

I'll have to take a look... Was the chain hitting THAT or just the toolbox?

both, ground a big hole in mine, made it usesless. Not much of a toolbox anyway, didn't ever close tight enough to keep water out. Ruined some tools too. No biggie since we don't need tools anyway.

Ah, I should note that bad-*********, should read "bad-@$$", as in the best mod, besides saddlebags, that I've done to my Trumpy.
