I was looking at an iron head sporty the other day. They are getting real cheap around here. Figured it could be fun.

Look that iron head over VERY closely if you are interested. They had problems with the cam design. All 4 cams ride between the right innercase and outer cover. Very poor design. Look the tranny over very well too those were over complicated and prone to problems as well. Not to mention you need to carry a candle for when the generator isn't working (most of the time LOL)

I have made a few modifications to the nightster. Here is a link of what it looks like now with the new pipes, smoked lenses and new shocks. http://picasaweb.google.com/kenfm2000/Nightster

The primary drive chain is between the main engine and the gearbox. The secondary drive would be belt.

Fairly loud yes. They do have some small 4" long baffles in them. So it's definitely not as loud as some out there but louder than my speedy with epco's.

Ken, I think it's a great looking bike. Don't let the guys who call it a girls bike bother you. It looks to be about the same size as our Triumphs so maybe we all ride girls bikes. I'm not in the market for a new machine but if I was I would consider it because I would not by a Taiwan Triumph. Good luck with your new machine and ride safe.
if life gives you lemons keep them because hey, free lemons.

That looks pretty cool, but please do something about that air cleaner. An old, Goodsen style cleaner would look great. I saw an olive/black Nightster in NJ last week, that color combo was very appealing. I loved the black, powder-coated wheels.

It is really noticeable at idle. The front wheel dances around a little. Lower RPM's while rididng it is noticeable. At highway speed either I don't even notice it or it's not an annoying level. I know on my speedy at highway speeds there is an annoying vibration that causes numbness in my arm if I stay within the rpm range that causes it. The first few times I rode the nightster I was so taken with the way the torque felt during acceleration I don't think I noticed any vibration at any speed other than idle, but now I really pay attention to the details and it is definitely there in lower rpm's.

It does handle well. It is fairly low so scraping is definitely an issue. Because there is still a fair amount of gravel on some of the corners out there I have not really tested it to it's limits. There have been lots of others that have spoken quite a bit on how easy it is to scrape way to easy. I did put 1" taller shocks on the back which did increase some of the height so I guess I will see this summer how much I scrape the rubber pegs.
