Jeffrey, when you say "It's like tearing down your old shotgun after a day in the field.....etc and rebuilt the next weekend", this is the type of thing saying well, you've already done the BB so just fix it. Maybe I'm going mad but I keep having the little man on one shoulder dressed in black saying "DO IT, YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE", IT WON"T KILL YOU, what are ya, man or ..." and then on the other "Yeah, but what happens if..." In no way am I refering to anyone else here, it's just a me thing with the challenge of it. I'm also in the line of work where we get in and do it but always with plan b,c and d - no f#@ckups

I read Pat's big bore saga about 100 times, if not more, until I had dang near memorized it. I read the Haynes manual a few times until it was familiar to me too. Then, I did the teardown in my head about a million times at work while I was supposed to be well, working.
Zen and stuff. Once it felt like I'd almost done it already next thing I knew I had ordered the Wiseco kit.
I'm kind of joking, but if you have the will to do it and want the satisfaction of having done it yourself, and aren't scared after reading Pat's tale, and read the manual and understand everything...maybe you could do it yourself. Remember, it's not a race and there is no time limit.
On another forum a member said "When you pick up a wrench think love, if you get frustrated or scared put it down and come back to it." I thought that was a good way to put it.
The only thing that worried me was the cam gear retaining bolt and the little washers perched right above the cam chain hole ready to fall into oblivion. Scary stuff, but once I had all my rags stuffed down in there and the magnet tool at the ready it wasn't half bad! Once you get to that point you're home free!
Pat's big bore saga leaves nothing out and answers all questions. As soon as I had torn it down I sent him an email giving up serious props for it.
Good luck, you're not alone!

Thanks Jeffrey, it took a while but that is exactly what I wanted to hear What do they say, nothing ventured nothing gained. Mind you, that applies to anyone including those who had it done by professionals. Either way, we are all blessed given we are talking about fairly major cash for improving, not buying a toy. Geez, some people don't have enough water to drink. For us, it's all good mate and certainly we are not in the "poor us" category

Big Poppy, the dealer will have to prove that the BB modification caused the problem before the warranty can be voided. There is a Federal Act in place to protect you. Go ahead with the build. ....Angelis

So if he vaporizes a piston, Triumph will fix it and buy him a new Wiseco kit. No way, ever, will Triumph rebuild that motor.
The assertion: This is a 790cc motor built to exacting specs. The owner machined the cylinders, inserted other pistons and rings, overstressed the system and blew it up.
Sorry angelis, I know the law to which you refer. He blows the motor he bought it. I have to disagree. Triumph will never sleeve the motor and buy Wiseco products under warranty.

Satxron, I think you're taking Angelis' post to extremes. I think what he's saying is that installing a BB kit doesn't invalidate the entire warranty. For example, your coil goes out after installing the BB. I would think that Triumph would still replace the coil. If your brake rotor is warping, I'd think they'd replace that. I don't think they're replace a nuked wiseco piston. though, but Wiseco does support the kits.

Absolutely he is right on that. They will certainly do electrics, and whatever else fails.
Maybe I misread and he meant Triumph won't rebuild the motor but will cover the other stuff. In that case I agree. Just don't want Big_Poppy thinking all is well in Motorcycle land with a BB and your warranty.
Ian, at Pure-Triumph is specific with customers on warranty that they personally warrant with Wiseco the BB. Triumph will not rebuild or get involved with major motor after the install.
As I said earlier, if warranty doesn't matter then go for it.

After much thought and input I have decided to ride Big Poppy this year the way it is and next winter do the BB.
That way I'm only giving up two or three months of the warrenty.
