I was just looking at my stock black one and was thinking it would be so easy to improve.....
Has anyone made a different/custom chain guard yet?

No one has made a different chain guard (cg) yet. Solo finishers have been used to replace the rear hangers and afford some chain protection as the cg was removed. Custom peg hangers work too. Chromed cgs can be purchased. Don't though. Your stocker should be plated if you want a chromed one. The chromed ones you buy have a tendency to break at the bolt points. The bonneville cg won't fit either. Check out the Texas goodies...

That's not exactly true, I just can't remember who it was. Someone made a chainguard out of round bar, suspended directly over the chain. It didn't look to me like a whole lot of protection for the chain, but whatever.

I read that the factory has "cleaned up" the chain guard for '07. Haven't seen one, though.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

Someone was making SS chain guards, I think for Brent. He contacted me cause I was looking for one, but I haven't heard from him since.

Someone painted theirs green to match the bike - it's a nice look but wasted if you have large saddlebags (which explains why I never bothered wasting money getting the chrome one!).

Sounds like a good idea, might try that myself!

I found the one you mentioned, I'm going to do something similar except probably curve the bar to the radius of the sprocket.

I wonder what did you mean by "improve"? I agree with the guy who said that with bags on, (I'm running K-Drives), it is not really visable anyway. My biggest problem with the stock gaurd is that it doesn't "gaurd" enough. I added a piece of thin sheet rubber to the tail of it, about one inch, and that stopped about 90% of that black crap from flying off onto the bags, fender, my wife's sleeve, etc! Not the prettiest thing I guess, but it works and I can't see it! Cheers, Gerry.

I just mean improve in the looks department, I think the stock one looks like a peice of pressed sheet iron metal.
Also I don't have saddle bags and my chain is clean, so it is functioning just fine for me but I'm always looking for things to do in my shed......

OK, well I agree with you there, the stockies aren't much to look at. I kinda like the ones that are painted to match the bike. Mind you, mine matched from the factory, being black and all!

Yeah, I did read that somewhere. Went down and checked out an '07. Apparently the writer confused "chain guard" with "sprocket cover".
