Sitting here waiting for my screen to refresh, I was looking at the Speedmaster and America pictures in the top right of the Forums header. The Tank badge on the Speedmaster says 'TRIUMPH' and the America badge says 'HPMUIRT' Anybody notice that or did I just win the 'Door Prize'?

Gina has an excellent point - Pokey, you half witted babboon - That damn3d thing has been like that forever and a day. Open your eyes and take a look around, man. You should know better.
Now that that's been taken care of, neither of you deserved a tongue lashing for that. Carry on.

The reason is Americas are usually going backwards when viewed from the seat of a flying Speedy. I'm surprised there's an issue here??!!!

If you look close, it's a black/silver America. Since those are, by far, the fastest, you are seeing an optical illusion caused by trying to photograph a vehicle moving at near light speed.

Actually, that's not an America at all. It's a very little known picture of a prototype called the AmeriremA made in the late 80's when Triumph only had enough money to make one half of a bike. When they finally got financing to produce the other half, they merely used a doppleganger of the first half to save production cost. It's reported to be the only perfectly symmetrical motorcycle ever built! A bit of trivia - it has no transmission or clutch!

This is by far and large, the BEST explanation of this phenomena.
Talk up your SMs and other color BAs but black & silver was and is the only color. Get over it, you neanderthals! :grin

I can remember when I first joined the site the black & silver Americas outnumbered all other bikes combined. Of course this was when the Speedmaster had only been out about 6 months, and I think there were 23 of them at the time...back when we used to keep track of that sort of thing. I even bought a black & silver tank for my Speedmaster. I thought that was a color combo Triumph should have offered.

About the pic at the top - I just put a piece of duct tape on my monitor - haven't seen it in forever! Works like a charm.
Derek, black/silver tank looks sweet on a speedy.

Funny enough, so does mine when I look at my reflection in shop windows !
