Hi - Still a stranger here but have had my Triumph America for a few months now.

Last night I had my first off... at around 10 mph!!

Just set off and started going down a steep hill, really don't know what happened but the rear wheel decided it wanted to lead for a change!!

The bike seemed to go away from under me but fortunately I did not come into contact with the tarmac.

After an inspection by streetlight the chrome cover on the short cut exhaust took most of the damage and the kickstand appears to be catching something!!

Hopefully I can get someone to beat the chrome cover back into shape rather than buying something new... can these be bought separate from the exhaust?

Felt a right idiot as the people in the house nearby came out after hearing the screeching of metal against tarmac!

Hopefully when I look at it in daylight there is no other damage!

Jazz

I would also look for what caused your rear wheel to slide out....

Glad no injury. Don't know if you can get just the shield.

I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Good question! I honestly don't know.. I only had moved 3-4 car lengths before it slid.

Did I release the clutch too quickly... was I too quick on the throttle... did I touch the front brake... don't really know.

It was a cold damp night... but cannot blame the road surface as I was going in a straight(ish) line!

The tyres on the bike are good... I checked the pressure last week.

For me it is a mystery... I rode home (around 35 miles) and the bike handled okay... although I was a bit tentitive at low speeds!

Sorry don't know!

You really should check your tire pressure before every ride.

damp conditions ???

Those can be the worse rather ride in a downpour than mist and damp pulls the oils out of the road and makes the road slick as hell.

I thought I saw a post where someone wanted to buy or sell a set so they probley can be removed.

No they're not a separate item. When I bounced mine off a traffic island I ripped the shield off the right one and you could clearly see the spot welds where the factory attached it. You'll need to get yourself a whole new silencer. Fortunately so many folks have put after market ones on their bikes that standard ones are plentiful and cheap. Alternately you could use this as an excuse to get yourself some after market ones too.

you might want to give the guys at ThunderBike power sports a call. When I bought my new pipes from them. they come with a seperate clamp on heat shield with OEM look.

Jazz, glad you are OK,,,listen...you have GREMLINS. install a gremlin bell on your bike '''lowest possible location,, mine is off the rear brake peddle. And don't forget..these must be gifts ,do not cheat and think you will fool the gremlins by putting on one purchased by yourself,,they will know and never, never feed them after midnight... and as everyone knows that is not GMT but CST (central standard time : USA) This from the Art Bell web site !
