I just got an e-mail in my regular outlook box at home from someone asking me about Norman Hyde pipes.Says he found my e-mail address on bonneville.com. I don't own Norman Hyde pipes and know nothing about them. Has anyone else got one of these e-mails?

Thanks,

Pete

Good call there. If it was a member from the site I would think that they would have sent you a PM. You dont have to be logged in or even a user to click on your user name and get your actual email address.

I would suggest deleting your email address in My Home>Main Configuration>Personal information, email, password, etc. (click Edit) where it says 'Email address (displayed in profile)' to preclude this happening again.

If someone wants to contact you, they can PM you for your email address.

I have not gotten any e-mails from someone claiming to be from group. I would agree that if somone from here wanted to contant you they'd go the PM route.

I have noticed an overall spam increase since I put my e-mail address in my profife. I think I'll take the remove it advise.

I use a throw-away. Check it about once a week. The PM thing works just fine for those of us that check here (almost) every day .

Me too and also for Calais? - I'm not intending to go to France this year but at $1.79 sounds a bargain...

Joking apart SPAM is becoming a big problem for a lot of folk/ companies and for slowing down the internet considerably. Apparently, I think it was quoted about 70% of internet traffic was due to SPAM and could eventually make the system overload and become useless? I don't know about that, but possible I suppose.
I've had the same email address for around 10 yrs and have noticed a steady increase in SPAM/ Virus/ 'Phishing' problems to the point where I was thinking of changing my ISP. Recently I've tried different tactics - setting up ISP filters, personal filters, internet security and various other programs which has brought things down to a manageble level. Very few mails get past my defences, if they do I try and track the info in the mail headers, then do my own investigations with a view to shutting these twats down. Sad as it is, it would again seem a case of the few ruining it for the majority
