Removing the fork-legs isn't that bigga deal. Release the pinch bolts on the upper and lower yokes and slide-em out. Of course after the fender, the fender brace, the brake calipers, etc., are all removed.
BTW, it makes sense that while you have all that off to install the fork-gaiters (see pic below).
