And fortunately, I have to agree with Brian. Without VERY deep pockets, and a wide range of models, they're almost sure to go the way of Kenny Dreer's dream of a revived Norton.(which were ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, BTW)
Dwight,
I think that these guys have a totally different approach to Kenny Dreer's operation. Whereas Dreer's seemed like a workshop-come-manufacturer, these guys are business people with deeper pockets and a manufacturing process know-how. They have also very wisely extracted whatever concessions available from the state they will be operating in, including what I gather to be a less expensive work force (compared to California in the previous attempt).
I'm not sure but I think that the "top-of-the-range" POWERPLUS engine was an Indian in-house design/build and that the other engines were modified S and S's. I could be wrong, though. I also don't think they need a very wide range of products as they are trying to position the brand/bikes as a niche product. In view of this, their "kicking off" with the Chief as their flagship model seems like a good idea.
To me, they seem to be making the right moves and I really would like to see one of the coolest American brand names back on the road (they already have a recent and dedicated/loyal following to build on).
Given the above, I think their only downfall would be reliability problems, which, judging from the previous attempt, I am sure they will try to avoid, even if it means delaying the launch of their products. They will already have examined the previous attempt's problems and, being Brits, I would imagine they would have used John Bloor's brand resurrection/operation as a case study.
Exciting times n'est pas?
Bedouin.
Blessed are those eyes that have seen more roads than any man! (Homer).
