Well gentlemen, I'm wondering why nobody, when this particular issue comes up, ever mentions what COULD be the underlying REASON for this phenomenon?(IF this phenomenon REALLY DOES exit, of course)
I'd say offhand that MAYBE it COULD be, IF it IS true, that it MAY NOT be just people causing this(once again if it IS true).....BUT.....just maybe the...ahem...SHEER NUMBERS of PEOPLE on this planet TODAY(and GROWING exponentially as we speak...er...TYPE, that is!) ESPECIALLY among the UNEDUCATED living in so-called "Second and Third World Countries", who tend to have a "few" more children than they REALLY can afford to have...but whom the best and brightest among them tend to move to the "First World" and then THEY start burnin' the old fossil-fuels TOO, ya know)
Hey! Ya think it just COULD BE THAT????(once again, if it REALLY is happening, of course)
But, ya know, BIRTH CONTROL(it's called "The PILL" and has been available to Mankind since around 1961) is ALSO one of them there "unproven"(and some would say "un-Godly") and "inconvenient" little theories TOO!
("heaven forbid" that we should TALK about THIS little topic, HUH?!....ya know, it's either..."A way to keep the people down", or "A way to keep ME from havin' ALL the little brats I want", OR, "God doesn't like us talkin' about this sort'a thing"........ALL very "scientific" excuses...er..."reasons", of course)
Cheers all, Dwight (posulate THAT, people....ALL you people, that is)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

China then should be applauded for its one child policy? Do not forget the unintended consequences this nobel endeavor to save the planet has resulted in a population very skewed towards males (abortion as birth control?). What does a totalitarian government do with an excessive young male population? Could the result of China's policy on population have worse consequences than doing nothing?

I would really like to listen to a serious debate on the subject, but every debate I have heard starts and ends with the ill's the US has brought down on everyone else.
Then when they offer a solution to the problem it is always what the US has to give up and what we have to pay in comparison to everyone else.
I do not want to appear smug here, but what is some guy with a stick and a couple of skinny cows out in the deserts of Africa going to do to further the advacement of mankind, when all he wants is to be left alone and take care of his family.
I'm getting sick and tired of these people telling us what to eat, what to wear, how we should feel.
Just follow them home and I can promise you they are not living in the 9th ward, driving some kind of plug in car and eating bean sprouts.

Rich people? You seriously believe that? Research universities are funded extensively by corporations, interest groups and the govt.
Asfor the "majority of scientists and climatologists believe", just show the proof of that. As I stated earlier, many of the academics who promote this agenda, are not in the disciplines that are related to this subject. Much less, since when does majority make right? More and more prominent scientists in the climate fields are speaking out against this hoax, they are attacked by academics and the media, yet not honestly debated on the issues.
BTW Jimmy, you seem to have a obvious political response there, and with such a love of algore and the apologetics for him, are you on his staff?

So, it would appear that we have resolved that it is unwise to trust politicians, scientists, big business, and the likes of Pat Robertson. Come on, kids - we already knew that. Listen to Skillet - There's nothin' left to do but ride - Oh, and stay clear of the coastline. The tides will be a b1tch.

Now Global warming is recognised - HEY - THEY CAN TAX US FOR IT !!!!!!
anyone bothered to look at the Carbon Cycle research i.e. the roll of the deep sea trenches in regulating unusual and sudden increases in Carbon dioxide levels ? No , it's not 'cool' to look at alternative evidence that will show climate change is a NORMAL cycle in the life of the planet.

Interesting point. Emerging industrial nations like China are polluting like we did 75 years ago. Now, for the last forty years in the U.S. we've been doing things to curb automobile exhaust emissions (as well as other types, but I'll just stay with one for now). Early on they were pretty innocuous, PCV valves, non-vented fuel tanks etc., but they got more and more elaborate as time went by. By the mid seventies the engine compartments of automobiles were nightmares of wires and vacuum hoses. With the addition of A.I.R. pumps and flatter camshafts with different valve timing they were getting worse fuel mileage with less performance. Then electronic controls came along and cars suddenly started performing better, over the last few years we've seen a resurrection of the high horsepower/torque engine. The outstanding thing is that it puts out a minute amount of emissions when compared to the old technology of high performance cars. Plus they make much more power with less displacement. So I guess I'm trying to make two points here. One is that the need for cleaner air has led to wonderful advancements for auto/bike enthusiasts. The other is that this technology could lower emissions from other countries as well if they would use it. That was the main problem with the Kyoto Protocol. It put the onus on the developed nations that had already been reducing emissions, and left the emerging nations to pollute away.
Oh and for Dwight. That technology use thing applies to birth control technology too .

Thousands of years from now, after the comet/rogue asteroid strike, a race of super-intelligent cockroaches will have evolved to become the dominant species on this planet. Perhaps their archeologists will be excavating one day and come across an America or a Speedmaster somehow miraculously preserved just below the newly discovered iridium layer in the ancient soils....
We can only imagine how the populace will react to such a find, mainly because none of us speak "cockroach"...
Man, you guys are a gloomy bunch of sods!! Stop worrying about Global Warming, Ice Ages, and Comet Strikes. In 10.5 million years the moon will begin to collapse into a White Dwarf, causing the moon to fragment, sending huge chunks of itself into our atmosphere just before the sun goes into Supernova thus obliterating several thousand years of human existence.
There, happier now?

Another happy thought, according to the population gurus none of the native populations of Europe are reproducing at anywhere near a replacement rate while the Moslem immigrant populations are exploding. If current trends continue, Europe will have voluntarily become part of the Middle East by the end of this century. A great victory for birth control and cultural relativity (neither of which will survive the changeover.)
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Well...don't worry about it too much, Larry.
Studies in this ALSO show that the more SECULAR and EDUCATED a society is, the less they tend to reproduce.
SO...eventually after "The Hordes" invade Europe, they just might WISE UP, put their religion in perspective(Hey Abdul, define yourself..."Well, I'm Moslem and then I'm a Saudi, I guess!"........Hey Colin, define yourself..."Well, I'm a BRIT and then I'm Christian, I guess!"), and become MODERNIZED, and thus start using their BRAINS, instead of what their Shaman(or ANY clergyman) tells 'em is "right".
(I THINK it's called....ASSIMILATION, or somethin'?....but in your defense, you're right. Many, if not most immigrants into the "First World" seem to like to keep their old habits/superstitions/culture that worked "so well" for them "back home", huh?!)

I'm an American.
Okay, an American MUTT, who "ironically" rides a Triumph Bonneville AMERICA! (note the absence of any hyphens in the spelling of this motorcycle's name)
Didn't ol' Teddy Roosevelt say something along the lines of: "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism"...?

Notre Dame University a french name right. Founded by Rev. Edward Sorin. A Frenchman. Why is their football team known as "The Fighting Irish"?
