Here is a photo of my "garden" after the big ice storm last month. The rightmost building in the distance is my second stable. I'm planning to plant this area with horse food and maybe dismantle the stable and reassemble it facing the one nearer my house.

Nice Place.

Horse food, pasture management??

I bet these folks will provide a suggestion or two. I don't know this station, but NMSU has a good reputation.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this or not. The thought of seeing what was growing on your back got my curiosity And it turned out to be not that at all

If I took a photo of my back garden, you would see literally around 10 yards of grass a wall and then a road. If you had land like you have in the UK, you would be laughing at the minute as building land is worth an arm and a leg

Hey you could even sell it Mr Bloor

It turns out that land prices here are about where they were in California some 10 years ago. Just after I bought the house there, there was a sharp upward bend in house prices. Thanks to greed and land developers, I was able to sell for enough to pay off the old house and everything else, and buy this one. Now that nearly all usable land in CA and half of AZ is paved over, they've moved into NM and are throwing up several housing developments some 6 miles down the road on the edge of town. The local folks are getting upset about that because we don't have any Owens Valley or Colorado river to steal water from.

Looks cold. You would need a "real poncho" or even a "Sears poncho".

Lot of good info there. ENMU (east campus of NMU) is located in Portales, some 20 miles to the south from here. Their ag dpt seems to be almost the equal of Cal Poly.

There's something I'm wondering about. When I was a youngster, we added water to the tires on tractors for balast to get more traction (for cooling too! Some of those things can get up to 18 - 20 MPH! ). Here, they seem to be using a mix of water and calcium chloride. Does anyone know what the freezing point of this stuff is? I'd really hate to bust an ice filled tire trying to clear the driveway after a snow.

Ah yes 20 mph tractors, I tell ya there's nothing like taking a spring or fall ride through CT farm counrty,
And gettting stuck behind a tractor doing 20 pulling a wagon load of fresh manure. A note of caution to anyone who finds his/her self in this postion, cow s**t, Horse s**t, chicken s**t or whatever kind of s**t is in the back of those wagons. It slippry as s**t when it falls out in the road.

Rim Guard is a product specifically designed for that application and is supposed to prevent wheel rust as well. I'm not affiliated, a vendor, or have used their product before.

Tom
