Why is it that if Speedmasters are so fast that the spec says 55hp and Americas being so slow??? are listed with 62hp,I think mine is faster than yours  02 Bonneville America with all the gubbins

Peak HP is rated at some RPM. Torque is more important than HP. Look at the Torque curve, the flatter the better. The HP will build up from low rpm and cross the torque line at 5252 rpm, to reach it max. I have more fun out accreting the V twins, because of low rpm torque.

Its all in the color ....check out the other thread on color schemes for the definitive dope on why Black Speedmasters have been known to break the sound barrier. whilst in the hands of even the most neophyte riders like myself!
The Speedmasters utilize the same special surface (exotic materials) used in the fastest stealth fighters in the inventory of the USAF.
As a result the true top speed of Black Speedmasters is TOP SECRET. and is on a need to know basis only.
Even Dwight concurs with this!

Stewe - You're looking at the specs for the new SMs. The REALLY FAST ones are the original 'small block' SMs - Especially the Blue and Black ones

Strange how Triumph Motorcycles Limited of Hinkley, UK is currently upgrading the Americas (wheels, engine etc. - ok, they're still missing another disc on the front) and already did the original 'small block' SM's to the 865cc SM's specs .

Its an evolutionary thing, I predict that in 2 years Triumph will put 1000cc motor on the Speedmaster. Working toward the 1400cc everyone seems to dream of.(Why I realy dont know).Target date for that is 2013. But as I stated in an earlier post,world ends 2012.

Yadda, Yadda, techno speak, yes, my '03 America IS faster than the Speedy due to the "black powdercoating" and additional customizing. The customizing "lowered" my Bonnie's "air film coefecient" and thusly, with louder Sceptor pipes facilitates the bikes attitude making it meaner and faster.

Dunno about all of that, but I do know that I've seen 115 on the speedometer on my '03 America with a little bit more to go. I also seriously doubt I will be doing that again anytime soon.
