Not only timing intersections, but in all areas where you can, use the cages to screen you from other cages. Reminds me of Basketball.

And like Jethro says, "always stop with the bike in gear, you never know when you'll have to take evasive action." At least keep the bike in gear until the cage behind you has come to a full and complete stop. Again, this is using the cage behind you as a screen...
