As a young man I spent many hours riding my Montesa King Scorpion on any trails I could find. Once while riding a trail that paralleled the Kansas river I happened upon a new portion I hadn't seen before. It was July, Hot and dusty. I saw what I thought was a dry pond all flat and cracked dry. There was a rail road tie border that looked like a perfect launching ramp, so I spun around to get a run and launched the King into the expanse with the intention or riding a wheelie across.
As it turned out what I thought was a dry pond was a pit that was used to dump treated solid waist from the city sewage plant. Basically slug, 4 feet deep. When I hit the surface with my back wheel the bike stopped instantly, and stuck about mid motor deep in the slug. I went over the bars did a 360 degree flip and landed feet first. I sank in up to my waist, and needed a tree branch extended to me from my riding buddy to get out. The bike was so stuck that it took several wheel spinning attempts by a Ford van to pull it out.
