Figure it's about time to start the thread. My friends that usually stay up in Flagler are not going again this year but I plan on coming up on Thursday, March 8th until Sunday, March 11th. I figure on bringing my home with me (my tent!) unless someone offers me a floor!

So who's going and what's your plan?

Phil,

Jeff of Joe's Garage and I will be camping at the ABATE camp ground at the Volusia Fairgrounds (off of route 44 about 0.5 miles east of I-4). Cost per night is $15.00 and it is open camping, which means you can take up as much space as your group needs. Not sure which day we will be going up but more than likely no later than the 5th. Jeff will be bringing his enclosed trailer and at least 4 of his bikes (2 Triumphs, 1 BSA, 1 Norton & his work horse HD Dresser). I will just ride up.

We really like the ABATE campground for the following reasons:
1. Security is really good and performed by ABATE memebers.
2. They provide plenty of port-o-potties, which are emptied and cleaned daily.
3. They have showers on the campground.
4. They have a small cantina for breakfast or lunch.
5. Cost is probably the best in all the area.
6. A very relaxed atmosphere, where everyone is willing to help out if needed.
7. It isn't near downtown Daytona. It isn't really close to any of the main attractions, which we like because that means we are riding everyday.
8. They have a few vendors at the campground.
9. They do not care how much space you take up as long as it is being used. So you can have a group of 40 camping together or just yourself.
10. They provide fire wood at a very reasonable price.

Basically if we wanted to have a BA.com rally during Bike Week, the ABATE camp ground would be an ideal location.

Tom

You may know this but, last year I believe there were something like 18 DEATHS at bike week.

For Pete's sake be careful.

Uncle Phil,

I'll be there once again along with Gay and Gene (so more breakfast "orange juice"). Our crowd will be smaller this year it looks like, five or six only.

We're staying at the same place but I don't know how the room's will be working out yet until it gets closer but if there is room you are more than welcome to take advantage of an extra bed or floor space if need. I'm leaving the first of March and will be arriving either the second or third and leaving on the eleventh.

Arrival date depends on if I'm driving down myself or with someone. Gene doesn't want to leave on the Thursday but Gay does, so Gene might be going down with another guy named Warren, he's the virgin this year, not me. As it gets closer I'll post here what's going on so we can better coordinate.

Were you thinking of doing the St. Augustine ride with Triumph again? This year I see it's a Saturday morning ride I see. Don't really like the idea of that, I would rather go riding with a BA.com group if it comes down to a choice.

If I can get the time off then I'll be down there on the 8th and leaving on the 11th. Only problem is that I won't know until last minute like the FL rally (it's going to be like that for the whole rally season this year). I stayed at the ABATE campground last year and it wasn't a bad deal. Good security and decent facilities for what you're paying.

Except for the night that you passed out on my motel room floor, don't forget that ya drunk!

Oh and remember the two girls that were dancing and hugging and....yeah I can't wait until March.

I did not pass out. I did have enough to keep me off the bike though.

Those ladies were quite a sight, and every dude was having a look. One of the funniest parts about it was seeing this wide-eyed look from a young college kid who couldn't keep his eyes off the spectacle.

The more I think about it the more I need a vacation. The last time I took a day off, apart from federal holidays, was the Noreast rally.

Yep same hole in the wall, but it's cheap compared to the other places around there. Right now it looks like only four of us this year.

I borrowed one last year and my brothers came with me for the ride. Sue won't drive to Florida with me and I'm not driving to Florida and back by myself. We're flying down March 7th. I rented a car and I have a free place to stay in Orlando. I'll have to make that drive everyday. Oh well, maybe next year I'll have the money to ship the bike. $550 round trip.

Well, it looks like work has conspired to mess up any plans I had to go down to Daytona. I'll most likely be in Maine for a project we're working on Mar 5-14 and in DC the week before that for preliminary stuff. I hope this doesn't set the tone for the rest of my rally season this year but I have a bad feeling that it will. I'm going to be on a very intensive travel schedule through October. It's great money and a much needed change from what I'm doing right now but it makes it impossible to plan any time off.

I will be staying 3/2-3/5 at the Hilton across from the Convention Center. Great location to get to Main Street fun without having to ride after 2 or 9 Cpt Morgan & cokes. I will be looking through the myriad of Harleys for your beautiful Triumphs!!

Also those coming from up north, think about using the Autotrain. They can haul your bikes to Sanford, FL just a few miles away from Daytona. Not a bad deal.

See ya,
Alan

Alan,

You're just up the street from me. The convention centre is about 3 blocks to the place where we are staying.

We'll be getting together for sure. I don't usually go down main street later on in the week, just too crazy for me but I'll send you my cell number and we'll get together.

Note to self: to bump this post it is not necessary to have a conversation with oneself.... nor advisable ..... eventually someone else will post and then someone else and then onto the aclaimed "active topics" section!!!!!..... I think I will start packing my bike now.... or it too soon.... maybe I will answer myself in the next post.... ride safe.... Gordon
