Very ugly but I sat on one at the bike show. Probably the most comfortable bike that I ever sat on.

The Vision is a love it or hate it bike - even among Victory riders.
That being said, almost everyone who test rides a Vision (Yes, Victory ENCOURAGES test rides, even on $20,000 models) raves about the bike. It has huge power, is amazingly comfortable and handles effortlessly for a big bike.
One of the coolest things about the Vision is that it has outriggers so if you drop it, nothing gets damaged! I have yet to see this performed but my dealer told me they were throwing the thing around at the NY MC show over the weekend just to show how well-designed it is.
Look, the Vision is a big touring bike. It ain't for everyone. But if you're looking for a world-class touring bike you'd be naiive to choose a Harley or Gold Wing over this bike. Mark my words, the Vision is the way of the touring bike future. Watch for Japan Inc to copy the daylights out of it.

Is this thing for me? Nope but I can see some wanting to buy it. Same people that bought the Rune if you ask me. Plus it will get the crowd that are in between the Goldwing and Road King crowd.

A lot of talk about form an function. In touring, form is function. I bet on a 1000 mile trip if you got off your bike and rode that one for a hundred or so miles you wouldn't want to give it back. 100 HP with fabulous protection and ergonomics. Big luggage area, oh, and cruise control. Hehe, it is funny lookin, I ain't buying one. But I would use it to tow my Triumph cross country.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

So is it just me, or does the front end of the bike actually look like its swallowing the tire? The turn signals from the front end kind of look like freaky eyes, and I just can't shake the sense that the front end looks like a mouth bearing down on that little tire, ready to snap it up... Anyway, that being said, I will likely never own a touring bike. Not my style. I'm sure they're comfy as he1l, but I just don't care for them. I am excited that bike designs in general seem to be making some kind of shift overall. Designs have stagnated in mass produced bikes for years. I'm still a retro guy at heart, but it excites me that in the future there may be some bikes that come out which are really cool and really different than whats already out there. This isn't my ball of wax, but maybe it will pave the way towards something that's actually cool... I mean pave the way towards something that I think is cool.

Yep Mike, I think you're right! Looking straight onto the front of it, it DOES kind'a look that way. In fact, I'm picturing an Owl which has just swooped down upon a mouse and is mid-chew at this very moment. Good catch!(YOU, not the owl)

We have another agreement here, dude! While this bike is controversial, it may help open up and free future motorcycle designers to experiment with new ideas(BTW, underneath this bike lies a very innovative frame, as you may know) which may progress M/C design away from what could be considered stuck in somewhat of a rut at this time.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I saw a couple getting off of one a couple weeks ago in New Orleans - it had Alaska plates and they had just ridden in. That's an iron-butt ride! As I looked at it I can't say it's my style & the rider seemed to agree, but his point was from the saddle there isn't another bike he'd rather tour with. He said they were almost 2 weeks into a 5 week tour. Maybe fugly=comfort?

It's not my style, but I kind of like it. I saw an earlier? version of it at the Davenport antique cycle show last fall, and I was blown away with how exotic it looked, like a lamborgouni. And yea, the R3 is kind of ugly, in a muscle bound kind of way.

For what it's worth, there's a rumor that Victory is working at something in between the Kingpin and Vision. Something with more of a cruiser look but touring-ready.

I don't get the touring bike thing. I like traditional style bikes that spawned the rebel/outlaw/non-conformist vision of bikers, and are functional rather than pretty. If you need that much 'fashion' kit to take a holiday, then you won't be welcome at many of the places that require you to wear it. Don't like Customs or Choppers, LOVE Bobbers ! I get embarrassed when I see the Oldwing or BMW fraternity and their ugly obese flying sofas - particularly those towing trailers. Ok I'll go so far as to say if it hasn't got an engine with visible 'pots' that you can count, then it's not for me, and that goes for the RIII.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

I'll take one in solid black. With production likely to cease in short order, imagine what they'll be worth in 30 years.

That look was OK for the '39 Lincoln Zephyr, http://www.lzoc.org/photos/Images/39convertiblecoupe.jpg but it just doesn't work on a motorcycle.

Really? I hadn't heard that yet. Lots of development in this model, that would be a catastrophe for Victory. This thread is a year old, but I've yet to see one on the road or at our local dealer (they had one, sold it).

I agree with FriarJohn. I sat on a red Vision at the local dealer. It felt great and the motor sounded very good, but it had a little too much vibration for all that extra body work. I'd be afraid stuff would shake loose. The bike felt good sitting still, like you can toss it around like a bicycle - but it's like a half-a-car.
Ride Safe,

Last year Vic released 4 sketches of luxo touring bikes. I fell in love with one of the concept drawings but I can tell you flat out it was not the one they currently have out. The Vision is a love it or hate it bike. Period end of story. I personally hate the thing and I am a Victory die hard. I have owned two 2004 Kingpins (the first I wrecked with 8700 miles on it in 5 months) and the replacement which currently has 29,250 on it and is in my garage being "bagged" for the '08 riding season.
I have ridden the Vision a few times and the thing is outstanding. It is smooth as silk, handles amazingly well for an 800+ pounder, great power, great breaks not to mention the gadgets. Storage is disappointing for as big as it looks. Judge this thing from the saddle and you will be amazed. You can test ride them at almost any Vic dealer. With that said I still cannot get over the looks...
Rumor has it that Victory is getting ready for a mid-February release of a tourer based on the Kingpin platform.
The simple truth is, Victory makes great motorcycles. I will not get rid of Pin.....
I believe the America I have compliments the Pin nicely... (Cardinal Red is almost as nice as the Pin's Solar Red only difference being the pearl in the Solar Red)
I love the old parallel twins, nothing as cool in my book. I have not had much of a chance to ride it but I am in love with it...

Wow! Just saw one of these the other day at the local Triumph dealer in the shop. The front end was trashed, with large chunks of plastic hanging down. One of the handle bars was dangling from a wire. I was helping a friend pick up his bike from the shop when we saw it. The mechanic said that guy just bought it. Pulled out of the dealership and less than six miles after picking it up, BAM! sideswiped by a car. It looked like the bike was hit hard. The mechanic said the guy in the car never even saw the dude on his motorcycle (How do you NOT see THAT?). The mechanic didn't know if the dude was okay or anything, but as recessed as the rider was, it actually looked like the outer shell of the bike too the biggest hit. It was the first one of these bikes I've seen in person. Anyway, ride safe.

yeah that's ugly imo but their cruisers are very nice, too expensive for me but very nice nonetheless. Here are some picts we took at the Atlanta International Motorcycle Show yesterday in my flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15361458@N08/
