Yes, in our language (Injuns Rob? Ouch that hurts buddy...we prefer Natives or as we call ourselves "Skins"--we're allowed to be politically incorrect aren't we, kinda like you callin yourself "Cracker") it means yellow...we pronounce it Da li ne gi a (e sounds like long a); our word for money is a de la (e sounds like long a again)....my screen name Tsa la gi is actually what we call ourselves...the word Cherokee is a distortion of the Choctaw word "chalaque" which meant "cave"...they lived in the flatlands, we lived in the mountains--they were calling us cave people haha....the white settlers distorted it into Cherokee because they couldn't pronounce it. Dahlonega was the first place they found gold in the state of Georgia, after which we were no longer considered citizens of the U.S., giving the U.S. Government the right to begin the removal process to Indian Country (now known as Oklahoma)--all except for a small band of my ancestors who fought till the end and were finally given the small reservation on which we still live.....NEVER SURRENDER!! Sorry for the long post but it peaked my interest in a personal way...

OH DUDE THAT was a slam to the WHITE settlers NOT to the American indians....NO way NO HOW!!!!check the quote I currently have running...and a few weeks ago I had the "ask the American Indian what happens when you fail to controll imigration" quote running......trust me I'm not PC...and don't make any appologies for it either but this is not one of those moments!
(not to mention I have American Indian in my blood...7 generations back on my Grandfathers side from the Wabanaki (Abanaki) tribe in ME)

Hey Lee, This morning while looking at sites for things to see when we're in your area, I was checkin out the Cherokee Museum. Then I googled "Cherokee", and spent the next hour, or so, reading about the history of your people. I found it very interesting, and can't wait to get down there.
I sure hope we have a chance to get together before GA. Uncle Charlie

No problem mert....Rob, no offense taken buddy, I love the quotes you're always using. I'm about as polictically incorrect as they come--joke for ya: Whadya call a white man in the middle of 200 hundred Natives? Bartender!! hahaha (we call him Dinqua or BonnyUSA at the GA rally haha). Uncle Charlie, yeah we recently redid the Museum, very interesting thing to do while you're here. According to the pm I was sent you and LJ3000 are staying at Camp Town Cabins? Not sure where that is exactly, but you know we'll definitely get together while you're here!!

This is not directed at anyone, just sharing some thoughts -- In my youth of growing up in the 60s & 70s, the white schools often ignored the facts of history. I was raised 90 miles from here, yet we never heard in the schools a single word about what is considered one of the most significant events in United States history. Everything changed after that day, and it took me 49 years to learn about what happened almost in my back yard. A lot of us whites are catching up years later on what we were never told. We heard in school about what the Nazis did to the Jews, yet we skipped over what the settlers did to the original Americans, who were here first.

Funny you should mention that - in the course of looking up links, I read that the Pilgrim Thanksgiving dinner thing never happened - it was all manufactured for spin & damage control. Never knew that until 5 minutes ago. [I never was able to get to college, so my knowledge of history is a might limited]

When I was out that a-way in November, someone mentioned "The Trail of Tears" to me, as it related to the route I was going to ride. That was another eye opener. The older I get, the more interested I become in history. I guess becoming a fossil lends itself to this.

Ahhhh history I LOVE IT!! Pleasant or otherwise, you have to know where you've been to know where you're going right? Whether that's on a personal, community, or national level.....LJ3000, check out the Natives in your own area....aren't the Pequots there? Largest casino in the word, richest Natives in the country haha.

20 = "The Curse of Tippecanoe" aka "The Curse of Tecumseh" Bush is up for it too The part I can't understand - John Hinckley - alls he wanted to do was F' Jody Foster, and shoot Reagan. Why would that land anyone in an asylum?

Hey I know that one! My lawn tractor blew the darned Tecumseh motor in only 5 years of abuse. What a piece of junk. Curse is right.

Well before this turns into two or three pages of stinky Yota references I'll take the opportunity to jump in here and confirm my attendance in Georgia. Been away for awhile and still trying to get caught up and I ran across my name followed by a question mark.... can't have that now. Chy, you may officially remove said mark at your leisure. Looking forward to seeing you buddy, oh yeah, the rest of you's too, hehe.
