 Service Manual - worth buying?

OK, so I am mechanically inclined and my dealer is 65 miles away, so I'd like to learn how to do all of the normal maintenance on my America myself.
Do you guys recommend dropping $80 on the Triumph service manual? My owners manual does have some good information on tightening the chain, changing oil, etc, but I'm wondering if I'll want more guidance than that? Any input would be appreciated!

I have the Triumph Service manual from 2002. It was a big help over nothing, but not what it should be. Brent at newspeedmaster.com sells a Hanyes manual, which some say is pretty good, but I have never seen one. Brent usually checks everything out before he sells them. He, like Fast Eddy are both avid riders and are stand-up guys to deal with. http://www.newspeedmaster.com/html/haynes_manual.html

I have the Haynes manual and its great. I have not seen the Triumph Service Manual so I cannot compare one to the other. From what I have read and heard save the bucks and buy the Haynes.

If you can, get both the Haynes and factory manuals. Haynes has better pictures, but I have seen some really bad errors in the text and specifications. So, you should get the factory book for more accurate info and the Haynes so you can see better how things go together.

If it's the basic maintanence you want to do, definitely get the Haynes manual which will give you a lot more than basic but covers the basic a lot more throughly than the owner's manual. I have the Haynes and the Triumph shop manual which I would recommend if you don't mind spending the money. You can get one for $70. from some dealers (check out Coweta Custom Cycles).
For now, definitely get the Haynes, it's way too informative not to have for the resonable cost - not to mention all the pictures.

If you are going to do your own maintenance, don't screw around. Drop the bucks and get the factory and Haynes manuals. They are both invaluable.

Or you can just Lurk the site and chime in when you have a problem. 
Just kidding, the Haynes manual is setup nice and worth the money. I can't vouch for the factory because I haven't needed it yet. (knocking on wood as we speak).
The hard cover makes the book stand up good on the bathroom floor also.

Phil is right. If you are a serious DIY guy like a lot of us are get both. They also make great reading on the throne.

When I totaled the bike this last June it was all I needed to get it back on the road. Haven't seen the Haynes.
